Bedside table when home is occupied, when home is empty, 1911-A1 hides in the safe.

To my way of thinking, the only place to keep a loaded handgun is on your person.
Obviously no matter where you are, if you need it, it is there. You don't have to hope or count on being able to make it to another room if you need it.
In addition, if someone gets into your house, they won't be able to get to it without going through you first.
As far as safety goes, this also prevents kids or anyone else from getting to it in a moment of inattention on your part.
You have the gun with you, and under your control at all times.

My firearm, or firearms, are situated so that even Speedy Gonzales won't attempt a charge from 21 feet.

Besides, why are we telling the cyber-world where our stuff is? I don't tell people my MA discipline.

I may discuss a specific rifle or handgun, perhaps a few. How many others are there. Where are the alarms? It's useful info--to an aggressor.

I have hardware and training which permits me to sleep very comfortably. Isn't that all you should know? But thanks for worrying.

readily at hand.

My wife and I are, so far, childfree - so i see no need to keep my handguns secured

(caveat - when young children are inbound I lock all weapons up in my gun cabinet)

VERY close by, primarily in an IWB on my right side, where she belongs.:)

Only work, school, and other controlled areas require deviation from that.

As I type, right next to my left hand on the computer table. There aren't any trolls(children) in my house so there is usually some sort of firearm within easy reach.

A shout out to the Tourist...

Hey Tourist - I agree with your viewpoint. Which safe spot in the house are we talking about? My handgun in the bedroom, the one in the bookcase behind me where I spend my evenings, or down in my workshop?

Am I paranoid? Nope, just lazy - can't see having to run for a gun. Actually, my three kids are grown, with no grandkids yet, and so I get to leave my toys all over. If not loaded, then with a full clip in the pistol case. "Former Wisconsinite and still miss it..." also, congratulations on remaining armed while in Liberalville...

When I'm at work (at a public school) it's at home in my bedside table, same place it stays when I'm in bed. When I'm not at work it's on my hip at about 4:00 o'clock.

Anybody seen "Dogs of War"? Christopher Walken (cool) is a mercenary and keeps several guns all over his apartment. Nightstand, couch, refrigerator.

In my gunsafe (with the quick keypad entry setup). 1 exception is my carry gun which is on my body or within reach of my hand 24/7 (unless I have to go someplace where carrying is prohibited by law).

I won't say where my safe is and I won't mention what entails "within reach of my hand."

On the hip til I go to bed or take a shower.

When Im copping some zzzzz's its in the top drawer of the nightstand right next to me for easy access.

The rest of them are in the gunsafe.

1 on each floor

1 on each floor of the house.Loaded and secured with key hidden somewhere in the same room.
When I spend any amount of time on a particular floor.A holstered compact is close behind.Tucked away in that 1 special spot.
Then the basement is actually considered the Arms room/sports center.
