Is it just me or have ya'll noticed a lot less ak type guns on the online markets like gunbroker/gunsamerica lately? I used to see tons of arsenals "sgl21" listed. Used to see a lot of other cheaper AKs also. For the last 2 or 3 months it seems like there is less showing up. People getting worried about the elections? Or are they harder to bring to market now?

Atlantic Firearms is still showing a boatload of different AK models ranging from WASR's to Kreb's. The guns are still out there, the problem is everyone is buying up as many high-caps as they can before Comrade Obama has a chance to take office again.

As far as Saiga's go, I believe the factory in Russia is experiencing a back log of orders much like Ruger is right now. I still see some Arsenal SGL series rifles for sale at different places, but they currently aren't listed on Arsenal's website.

The ban on barrels from the kits that are imported has really slowed things down. With corrosive ammo, everyone prefers the chromed lined, original barrels, and there are darned few in-country to go with any new kit or rifle. That means the use of aftermarket barrels, which are more expensive, and maybe not as good as the originals. Sure, you can use better barrels aftermarket, even stainless, but that ups the the price of any newly assembled rifles.

I don't know about on-line but I've seen a ton of them showing up in shops all over Houston in the last few weeks. Five months ago you would be lucky to see even one AK variant in an LGS. Now you walk in and there are a dozen or so. Also was at the local gun show on saturday and saw whole tables of the things. Granted I didn't see any 5.45 types and the prices were high but there's a bunch of them in this area.

Obama is the candidate you worry will ban high cap mags? You're kidding, right? Maybe you should take some time to read up on Romney's gun legislation past instead of relying on am radio for all your info.

What was the reason they gave us for that anyway?

No matter what you think, Obama getting office the first time and the possibility of him getting a second term has people buying like crazy. It took me 2 months of tracking to find my AK 74.

JustinJ, you need to read up on Obama's anti-gun past and statements he has made about guns. "I don't believe anyone should be allowed to own a gun." Right now he has people like you in sleep mode. If he gets re- elected, watch out. Romney, for gun owners, would be the lesser of two evils.

Can you cite that quote because i'm pretty sure its a bold faced lie? If you're concerned with actual quotes and info regarding Obama and gun control you can find them here: http://www.issues2000.org/2012/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htm

And while you're add it check out:http://www.issues2000.org/2012/Mitt_Romney_Gun_Control.htm
Here's a highlight: "A: Let’s get the record straight. First of all, there’s no question that I support 2nd Amendment rights, but I also support an assault weapon ban."

I dont' agree with either candidate on gun control but how you can claim Obama is the lesser of the two evils is beyond me.

Anyways, neither candidate is great for gun rights but AKs are still available. My LGS has plenty of Arsenals and Romanians in stock and i've seen them around the web. But so far the gun and ammo shortage is small compared to how bad it got last election but it certainly may get worse.

The barrel ban is in effect because the BATFE decided that if a barrel had ever been part of a machine gun then the barrel itself was now a machine gun (or possibly just a machine gun part) and is not legal in this country. Since the imported parts kits are all demilled rifles the barrels have to be cut up before they can be imported.

On the plus side there is a growing market in virgin (hence not MGs) combloc barrels, which mainly come in already assembled rifles from manufacturers like Izhmash, Cugir, Zastava, and Beryl.

You'd have an easier time finding them here, if the ATF would stop selling them to Mexico.

The store I worked for has had a hard time finding AFFORDABLE AKs lately and we specialize in AKs, ARs an Saiga shotguns.

Where have all the AKs gone?
Looooong time paaassing,
Gone to parts kits, every one,
Long, looong agooo...

Sorry, couldn't resist. Here's hoping that song parody doesn't someday ring true...
