I can't find anything! And when I do find some after traveling for quite a bit, they're like $25+ per box for ball ammo, and they only have a couple boxes left. That's like 50 cents a round! :fire:

The heck's going on? Bad enough that 45acp target ammo is too expensive but most places are just not having any in stock as opposed to the incredible supply of other pistol calibers they have.

45acp and reloading go together like pancakes & syrup.

I have components for a few thousand rounds. I just need to assemble them.

I bought it all back when they had some. Mwah ha ha just kidding. I haven't seen any in a while but I don't shoot it so much after I accumulated 2k or so and I haven't seen any in a couple months.

I was getting a regular trickle of .45acp from the local WW (at least 1 box) every time I went.

Since last August I've bought 800 rounds and about 6 weeks ago that stopped now I've found only 1 box in three trips. I’ve been paying $16.00-18.00 for ball and $28.00 for JHP.

I have been paying 21.50 a box for FMJs. Granted, it is Blazer but is easily accessible at a small town, locally owned gas station. The owner's son just became a gunsmith so he runs his shop in the back room. Kind of weird at first to pump gas, get some snacks, then look at guns but I got the hang of it real quick. Anyways, I also paid $24 for a box of HPs at Bass Pro. Both places had plenty of it, too.

I reload for my own shooting but use commercial ammo for my classes. I've been able to find WWB (at around $30 per 100) by calling my three local Wal-Marts and running over to buy when they get it in.

I bought 30,000 rounds of Federal bulk pack .22 for our local Boy Scout shooting program by doing the same thing - calling in the morning, then getting there right away when they had it.

45 acp ammo is getting ridiculous in my opinion. I'm lucky though, my brother owns an RCBS progressive press that he lets me load on when I need to. My single stage can't keep up with my semi-auto handgun habit.

I recently loaded 948 rounds of 45 acp. It would have been 1000 but we ran out of large pistol primers which are very hard to come by.

Total cost for 948 rounds was roughly $180.

Reloading is an enjoyable hobby.

Cabelas has it but sometimes you gotta wait a couiple of weeks, but it gets here. I buy the 100 round WWB value packs. I think thy're around 40 per 100 plus shipping. I buy when I get low so delays don't cause me to run out.

@ Damon555...how many grains of unique do you like? Looks like 230gr HBRN? Nice pics!
They are 230 rainiers with a charge of 5.8 grains of unique. It's not a max load but it's plenty good to cycle the action on my Kimber.

I put these rounds together for the sole reason of the cost of the ammo. I want to be able to shoot a lot and not break the bank.

The smug gets a bit tiring...

You could always price components and see your current price is normal; you could also learn about reloading; you might also read up on supply and demand and learn what drives market pricing. As long as folks are willing to pay a certain price - even if you are not - the price will be above your budget and folks like you will complain about it. If you're expecting prices to be like they were two years ago, it isn't going to happen.

45ACP uses heavy bullets (the biggest cost), and will always be more expensive to shoot than 9MM or similar

That's an impressively low figure, given the price of primers alone.
That's about what it's costing me right now, but when I finish this batch of bullets the cost will jump to about $.08.

I walked into a Bass Pro a few months ago and bought 1,000 rounds of ball. They had more.

This is true and the market is being impacted by supply and demand. CCI Blazer .45ACP was selling at around $18.00-$20.00+/50 not too long ago, then the Russian ammo started flooding the market at around $15-$16/50 and the prices started to drop.

I was in St. Charles mall in Waldorf, MD at Dick's, and saw some Remington UMC .45 for $121 for the 250 pack.

I have just looked at a receipt from Walmart of Sept 2008 and they were $81 back then, just 18 months ago.

Have added FMJ to my reloading for over a year now. Glad I did.

You could try here: http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/

Unfortunately, all I saw was Winchester silver tip JHP and Speer Gold Dot JHP. There were others, but these two were the best that I could find at this location. The LE stuff (Federal and Speer), which this site tends to stock and which I prefer, is all out at this time.

Honestly, one reason I went out and bought a .40 S&W weapon was due to the shortage of .45ACP and 9mm JHP loads. Ditto on finding FMJ (at least the brands I prefer). The most popular loads are still, unfortunately, hard to come by these days. I thought this would have changed by now. Guess not....

First come, first serve (unfortunately).
