I'm looking to buy an excellent quality K-31, but wherever I go I can only find the carbine model for sale. I'd like to know if there is a longer version of the K-31 available and if there is a reliable site to buy one of these beautiful guns.

The K-31 is a carbine. There is no rifle version of it.
There are a few Schmidt Rubin rifles of earlier design such as the 1911 rifle which is similar to the K-31, but is a full length rifle and has its locking lugs in the middle of the bolt instead of the front of the bolt.

I tried to buy a "special select" grade K31 from SARCO Arms - however they jacked me around for 2 weeks then told me it would probably be another 2 or 3 weeks till they "got around" to filling my order.

So I canceled....

Promptly called up my favorite place, Classic Arms. Bought one of their K31s....did NOT pay for hand select or the extra fee to insure a troop tag.

This is what I got....and I also got a troop tag, kinda nifty. Rifle is really nice with just minimal bluing wear on the edges of the receiver. Bore is spotless as is all the metal.....really nice gun. Stock is in "better than usual" condition as well.

If AIM still has them I did receive a good one last month. I asked for handselect walnut and wanted all matching and a soldier tag and got it. I can't say they guarantee that but they've done right by me on two guns now.

Aim or Classic will treat you right, check with Classic I know Aim and most of the other vendors have been out of them for awhile but the sales guy at Aim told me they should have a few more in soon.

Carbine K31

The K31 is a carbine in the sense that it is 5 or 6 inches shorter than the conventional rifle of the time. My 98k is a "carbine" with a 23 inch barrel compared to the gewehr version that has a 29 inch barrel. Both look like big ol rifles compared to the M1 carbine.

If you simply must have a longer version, look for the Schmidt-Rubin M1911 - rarer, more expensive, but some claim it's the ultimate expression of the military bolt-action, and makes even the K31 pale in comparison.

I haven't bought one in several years, but I got all three from SOG. I like the K-31 so much I'm not even looking for a 1911, even if it would be great to have. Essex

In what state/city do you reside? Dunhams has them for $149.00! They have pretty decent wood, some bluing worn off, but the metal is pristine.

The one I have, the action is as-tight-as the day it was built. There is not a spec of rust anywhere. The K-31 is the Swiss secret...shhhhh! Don't tell a lot of people about these little beauties!!!

The K-31 is one of the best little rifles going...and you gotta love those triggers!

I think I've warmed up to the size of the K-31, and will probably get one from classic arms with walnut stock. I'll try to stop posting about the K-31 so that it can be kept a nice cheap secret.

They are roughly the same overall length, the K11 has a longer action. By shortening the action, the K31 could have a longer barrel with the same overall length.

I just got my K31 from Classic Arms the other day. It's a walnut-stocked ('41) example in great shape with a troop tag. I can definately say I will deal with Classic Arms again, their service was great and I love my K31.

If you're looking to buy a K-31 (not one of the earlier model Schmidt Rubins) I recommend Empire Arms.

My K-31 is in very nice condition, mirror bore, I'm well pleased with it. The transaction went through smoothly and I received the rifle quickly. I'll be doing business with them again.

They basically only sell higher-quality guns, so their prices do tend to be higher than average, but you know you're getting a quality piece. I think they only have 3 K-31s left in stock, fyi.

Interesting! M1911s are rare enough around here that I've never been able to actually handle one; I suppose I've been influenced by misleading pictures and/or testimony. Still, their accuracy is supposed to excel even the K31.

Samco global arms have k-31 rifles in stock, both beech wood and walnut. Their number is 800-554-1618. I called them this afternoon and they have all of the grades in stock except for the excellent grade in walnut. The grades available now are as follows:

BEECH WOOD

very good - 129.95
special select - 139.95
excellent - 159.95

WALNUT WOOD

very good - 149.95
special select - 159.95

They also have a kit containing a leather sling, swivel and muzzle cover for $15.95, and an original k31 cleaning kit for $29.95.

Shipping for the rifle is $17.95. I hope this helps. I too, would like to add one to my collection.

What sucks is I'm looking for the excellent grade walnut, so samco will have to wait till I get my second K-31 :). I think I'm going with classic arms, and will probably call them today to order.

nice, im heading off to the FunShow tommorow with the goal of a K31. i know its not likely il find a decent one for a decent price but i can dream. Seems to be a much larger "Fudd" crowd less general shooters or collectors. so hopefully i can find a good price. i remember a couple differant racks of K31's last year.

I found this one by googling "WTS K-31". I came across a 3-month old, forgotten ad in the AR15.com Equipment Exchange. Strangely enough, no one had taken the deal.

SN 631837 1940 walnut stock "I 39". It's got the best blueing in my collection of 5 K31's.

The seller only wanted $139 for it. :D

Strange scars on the right side of the butt.

Unfortunately, I didn't find a tag.

I've seen similar scars on the stocks of rifles that were stored behind the seat in pickup trucks. The exposed springs of the seatback would cut the stock. I'm not saying that's what happened here, given that the good condition of the blueing argues against it, but it looks very similar.

If you are going to deal with Classic I recomomend you ask for a hand pick even though they say they are all the same. I have had good and less than stellar results trusting their one size fits all grading..... Several times over.

Basically I think they are lazy graders. Their website will read like."~these are all the best weve seen and they are all whatever grade". Then you get a beauty like you never even imagined and one a tank ran over and the blue that went somewhere else instead of staying on your rifle. If your gonna call those the same grade you are a lazy grader.
So tell them what you want or absolutely do not want so you wont be disapointed. I can Say they consistently have a good selection, they dont waste time filling your order and overall they are a good outfit. Just dont trust their one size fits all grading cause IT IS baloney.

Your right about Samco. Terribly slow. But they seem to consistently put out accurately graded rifles, have tiny import marks, and if you ever actually break into a conversation with those ladies they are real sweeties. There still SSLLOOWW.
