I looked through all the threads & didnt find anything similar so I hope I dont step on anyones toes. Anyway, here is my question:
You have your carry permit, and each state has its laws on where it's legal to carry and where you can't. Would you carry where it's NOT legal to carry?
There is a thing in the law basically called "the greater good", so basically if you commit a crime and end up preventing a greater crime.....
Do you, would you carry in a bar whre it's not legal? Reasons? I have my own thoughts and what I personally do..

This is a public forum and discussing how responsible gun owners intend to break the law is not very High Road and gives antigunners more ammo.

I don't carry where prohibited; I stow it in my truck. Sometimes, when still permitted, I'll carry a lesser weapon, such as an edged or chemical weapon.
If I feel at risk at a place where CCF is prohibited, I limit my time there as much as possible. I really have little need to be in a prohibited-carry place, especially since I am not a student, don't frequent airports or government buildings. or drink much (less than ten beers a year.)

There are certain rules and laws. You learn them and work with it.

Some states more open than others. I have stack of papers detailing my state's rules and law. I dont have any trouble reading them regularly.

In Texas, if you have a concealed handgun license and you carry in a place where you are legally not supposed to, two thing can happen. One, you get arrested for a misdemeanor and two, you loose your CHL.

Also, in Texas, establishments can post a sign, specified by law to be a certain size, certain font size , and verbiage that by law make concealed carry in that establishment illegal, provided the sign is correct. If it is not, they you may carry concealed without worry of legal action. However, my feelings are this, if someone, business or individual does not want me to carry on their property, I won't, law or no law, sign or no sign. Because I feel it is the respectful thing to do.

And in Arkansas should you come to visit me at home, you need to inform me that you are carrying. I am not required to post signs prohibting CCW's however many of my neighbors have signs that make it clear that invaders shot and survivors shot again.

Very peaceful around these parts. The only visitors are either family, friends and UPS. Everyone else is automatically suspect and treated on a case by case basis.

But most all in things to consider, we are pretty good folks. Not such the law breaking rabble that might be found loitering about a street cornoer downtown at night.

I dont understand it. Worrying about those who take the time to learn laws, train at a range, pass a CCW course and submit (Bend over...) to checks and probing while our criminals run free like dogs needing catching by the dog pound man.

why would you want to commit a crime, which involves a firearm??

don't we have enough of that, in this country, already??

I would carry in a bar if I'm not drinking which is often since I'm not a drinker
I would carry in a church depending on were the church is at
I would carry in a hospital pending on why I'm in the hospital
I would carry in a sports arena/entertainment facility pending on were its at (snub nose only)
I WILL NOT carry in a school or a day car center

I am sure nobody that uses this forum has ever gone out to eat in a place that serves BEER without removing their sidearm... absolutely NO CHANCE OF THAT... right?

btw.. in many places... not sure of all, this is ILLEGAL>>> you broke the law..

I dont drink much. If I do it's at home only.

We live in dry counties. Arkansas is the sort of place where you might have trouble coming at you (Like it or not) from anyone on a dark weekend night. Particularly if said trouble is enjoying a keg of beer on thier way back home to a dry county after a supply run downtown.

We don't discuss or encourage illegal activity on The High Road.

This.

The reason you "didn't find anything similar" when you searched is because THR exists to promote reposnsible, legal, and safe gun ownership - not to discuss which laws we'd break if they existed in opposition to "the greater good". Therefore, we don't really let threads like this live very long.

I sense a threadlock in the near future...

I don't carry anywhere that it is ILLEGAL to, but I also happily carry where there are those dinky little, not legally binding, nor firearm signs.

Heck one mall I go to has no firearm signs all over it, AND A GUN SHOP IN IT.

Concealed is concealed.

However, illegal is also illegal.

KBK

Yup, regardless of how we feel about the situation, we don't talk about illegal stuff here :)

Is the OP looking for admitted law breakers here at THR...?...so he can turn them into law enforcement...?
I carry only where its legal!!!!!!!!!!

Do you, would you carry in a bar whre it's not legal? Reasons? I have my own thoughts and what I personally do..

In Idaho, it's perfectly legal to carry in a bar.

It is not legal to carry while under the influence, which is defined the same as it is for DUI.

I wouldn't carry in a bar here, under most circumstances, for a few reasons.

1. A bar is a place you go for entertainment. I think it's STUPID to go somewhere for entertainment, if you think you may have to shoot your way out. If you believe you are going somewhere, on purpose, that you need a gun, then why in hell are you going there? (If that adds up to, "Well, then I'd never go to a bar," then don't go to a bar.

2. Civil liability can be a real bitch. If you shoot someone in a bar, even if it's a "good shoot", expect to spend a lot of time and money in court, explaining yourself. Bars are a unique situation that make things difficult for you when faced with a good shyster civil lawyer (I'm talking about actual bars, not places that serve beer with your burger, obviously.)

3. If you have to shoot someone, the witnesses will probably be drunk. Not good.

4. If you're drinking, how do you know (or prove) that your BAL is under .08%, exactly? What if it goes over that? You're now breaking the law here, and also risking everything you own in civil court, should you use the gun -- even legitimately.

5. If I'm not drinking, bars are god-awful places to hang out, IMO.

Now would I run into a bar restroom in some mountain town while carrying? Sure. But would I just go to a bar downtown with a concealed gun? Probably not.

(I also have the luxury of living in a city where "downtown" is not synonymous with "violent crime" in any way, shape or form.)

In Florida, PT1911, you are permitted to carry in any restaurant that serves alcohol as long as two conditions are present:
1) The establishment must be primarily in the business (more than ten percent of revenue coming from) of food service, not of alcohol service, and,
2) The permit-holder must not carry while present in the "bar or drinking" section of the establishment. Carry is permitted in the "dining" portion. Sit at a table or booth, not at the bar, and you're good to go. Oh, and feel free to order a beer.

Based on the way the OP phrased his question, this thread should have been locked from the very beginning.

No responsible person will knowingly break the law.
