I've got the itch to get a K31, and I'm wondering where I can find some good ones for a decent price (between $100 and $160). Big5 seems to have some for $100, but the one I saw at my local Big5 looked awefully beat up. I'm hoping to find one a in a little better condition and I'm willing to pay a little more for it.

My priorities are (in order of priority):

1. Great bore and muzzle crown.
2. Matching serial numbers
3. Good blueing (doesn't have to be incredible, just decent).
4. Stock in decent shape, without cracks if possible.

Thanks for any help.

I'd say get one from AIM, but it's a gamble. I've bought two from them and they were all matching and in great condition, but it's always a gamble since you don't get to see the rifle before it comes to you.

You could try gunbroker. There's quite a few on there with lots of detailed pictures.

You'll get #1 and #2 with virtually any K-31 you buy.

#3 and #4 won't have any effect on how the rifles shoot so long as the stocks aren't cracked.

I'd just buy a beater at $100, you'll be suprised at how well they shoot.

Allan's Armory would be the place if you are willing to pay the high end + of your $$ range, but you'll get a nicer looking rifle.

Thanks for the replies.

I've emailed AIMSurplus to see if they're getting any K31's in the foreseeable future since they aren't advertising any right now. I've also found another dealer at a reasonable price in case AIMSurplus doesn't work out.

I admit, I'm much more concerned with function than looks. I also have a sneaky suspicion that if I like my first I'll be wanting a second. :uhoh: :D

If I wait another month, I might have enough money to just get two to begin with.

Let me know what AIM says. I was about to order and found out they were out. Who's the other dealer? In case AIM isn't getting any more.

Are there any other Big-5's in your area? There is one K-31 at the Big-5 in Boise and it is pretty nice.

Note that ANY K-31 is going to have some stock wear. These rifles were all stacked up in the snow and carried by guys with hobnailed boots who kicked their rifle stocks as part of the manual of arms. Any K-31 with a clean stock has paobably had the stock replaced or refininshed. But they are also well-maintained and have great bores.

Fgs!

I bought K-31s from both AIM and FGS and in my experience, FGS is the way to go.

The rifles from FGS seem to be in better condition and FGS is more than willing to accomodate special requests such as certain serial number ranges, type of wood stock, etc.

They must be a very small shop, and it shows in the great customer service that they offer. :)
