Where would you go?

Costa Rica.

My wife is from there and she has taken me twice. Of course I would have to get whatever license is required to own / carry a handgun.

My wifes nephew tells me that with the right payment to the right person you can get nearly anything you want. Just give me enough money to buy a large piece of property and house, reliable vehicles, a selection of guns, dogs to guard the house, and a few locals that are loyal to me (or should I say the money I give them) and I would be fine.

I would move to that other country you know the one with the song, "The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of ......."
Always in the back of my mind should the need arise... though AZ has been pretty good to me in the past, and I'd hate to have to move "back east" to maintain my western lifestyle...:D

Bluestar, sure, c'mon over.

I've always wanted to go to NZ, but I'm not sure I'd wanna live there. Looks beautiful, maybe someday I'll get a week or two there.

I'd be hard pressed to leave the US, but I suppose I could get over the cold in Alaska. Must be a good place, it's initials are AK!

Australia. New Zealand.

Great Britain would be okay, esp. if you could live in Northern England or Scotland.

All of those places banned pistols....

I heard a story about a guy who foresaw WWII coming. He moved to an out of the way place in the South Pacific known as Guadalcanal. Really.... :neener:
Best,
Rob

I've thought about this a good bit. My choice would definitely be the islands of Palau.

The country has a representative democracy with direct relations with the US...the currency is the USD...3/4 of the population are Christian...English and Palauan are the official languages...the average temp is 82 degrees, and the islands are outside of the typhoon zone. Also, there are supposedly a lot of WWII American and Japanese "artifacts" scattered around the islands.

There are supposedly no poisonous snakes on the islands, and although a famous lagoon is populated with millions of jelly fish, they're stingless.

How about seccession? One tiny state with its own seaport so we can engage in international commerce. Form our own tiny Coast Guard and Gendarmarie Nationale. I want to be Minister of Propaganda and Culture.

Actually, Switzerland wouldn't take me and I don't know enough German to get by (French & Italian) also helpful. I don't want to go to Europe and Canada is too frozen (and they hate guns more than our own politicos do). I wouldn't mind Australia, but I can't bring any guns other than muzzleloaders with me. You think they'd want someone to research Billy Sing for them and write the ultimate biography of the man?

You can have pistols in NZ you just got to have a B endorsement on your gun licence and belong to a pistol club ;)

When the revolution comes, I wish to be declared Earl of Hampton Roads and Lord of Hatteras.

All are invited. There shall be daily feasting, taxes shall be low, gun ownership shall be required by all, shooting ranges shall be plentiful, and golf shall be free.

You may kiss my ring.

p.s. I just realized that I'll then be the owner of Blackwater USA. Boy, will that be fun! :)

A bunch of my friends and I already have plans to buy an island and set up our own country. We're gonna copy paste the US Constitution and shoot all day, drink all night and do it all in board shorts, hawaiian shirts, and Sperry's.
But it doesn't necessarily have to be bad for us to leave. We're gonna do it when one of us hits the Power Ball. :)

I'm of two minds on this one. First mind says that I only speak Americanized English and that the only things I truly care about in this life are the family farm (and freedoms that go with it) and my family and friends. I can lay low and live off the land (though grandpa didn't really have the opportunity to teach me how, Hank Jr.), and support my own life. But I won't live to see the day when someone takes any firearms from me while I sit back and do nothing. I live in the United States of America, like the previous generations of my family back to 1789 (and they were just colonials back in 1750). No I'm going to stay and sling lead if that's what it takes. On my own terms, so to speak. Petoria anyone??

The other mind is that with my age, I may in fact live to see the fall of the country I've grown up in, or at least a mutation of it beyond anything I'd recognize right now. If I can't have certain rights, then I'm leaving. I'd head for Scotland. Leave the guns and take the clubs. That and after a while I'd have that sweet accent. The one thing I'll always take with me is the knowledge of survival. And engineering. And how to hit a solid 2 iron. Or throw a Curveball. Dang, they don't have baseball in Scotland......well Option B is out!

I like the Philippines. Citizens may carry handguns, Lot of military weapons.

They even have a VA Hospital. A lot of EX-Pats. Almost all Filipino's speak english too. Up until recently it was mandatory in their schools.

Warm, and growing. Just stay off of the islands of Mindanao, Palawan and Sulu. Those Islands are predominant Muslims with all the problems that ensues. That is where the rebels are, and have been for over a hundred years.

But relax, there are over 7,000 islands that make up the Philippines.

Find a nice local girl and set up house on a quiet out of the way beach.

I can dig it.

Go figure.

Why should we leave? Why can't we just kick the liberals out of our United States? They're the ones who want a new nation. Instead of letting them transform this one into a new one, just send them to a new one that already exists, AND has their brand of politics, like the UK. No guns and free healthcare for all! YAY! In the meantime, I'll keep my US and it's Constitutionally protected freedoms.

New Zealand has plenty of land, few people, beautiful nature, diverse climates, and decent gun laws. Foreigners can bring long guns in with only a hunting license. Try that when entering the USA.

As long as my family is with me and they want to stay, we'd stay in the states. On the Lamb if we had to. Otherwise, if Alaska isn't an option, -and I don't have the wife, then the boys could help me through my last days homesteading in the Northern Territory. The Yukon.

Not sure where I could go that it would be better, but I can think of some things that would make it better here.

Texas...it is a whole 'nother country. We entered by treaty, so...

Why can't we just kick the liberals out of our United States?

We cant because it would be equally wrong for them to try to kick US out for having them. Ideological differences are not a valid reason to try to expel someone from their own country. :)

I'd head to the Philippines. I was born there and I still have family there. Good weather, good food, beautiful women. It's on the short list of countries that have widespread (and legal) gun ownership. The government is based on the American model. Plus their preferred handgun of choice is the 1911. Lots of smiths with the know-how to fix any problems you might have with your Colt or even Norinco.

The Philippines is also our ally. And its people like Americans.
