Ok so I am looking to buy a 1911 in the next couple weeks and have narrowed it down to the Citadel for 499, the Springfield GI for 519, or the Taurus for 538. These are the list prices at the store down the road from where I work. First which would you choose and second are these good prices.

Springfield GI and yes that is a pretty good price.

I have one and have really enjoyed having it.

The prices you show aren't bad at all, but if it were me I would spring for a couple hundred more and get a Colt. There's a world of difference between my Colt and the Taurus I sold last year or the Iver Johnson and RIA I sold a few months ago. The springfield guns are good ones, so I've heard. I don't know anything about the Citadel guns. The Taurus guns are alright, but something seemed off with the one I had... It just didn't feel right to me.

American Classic Deluxe is in that range better made than the taurus lot more to offer than stripped GI and better fit and finish tha the Citadel.

I was recently looking for a 1911 in that price range and settled for the new Remington 1911 R1. So far I have been very impressed with all aspects of this gun. Guess its all in the eye of the beholder. The R1 is pretty traditional with a few upgrades that I really like. I also like the idea of having an quality American made product at an affordable price. Gun Broker has several of these up for auction that are very reasonable right now.

Any of those listed will serve you well.

STIs and S&W for me, but that's just me.

I think those are "good prices" but will they require more work, soon?

If you can find one, take a look at the Ruger. I got mine for $620. Just a bit more than your prices, but I haven't seen the Remington's for any less. For me, the Springfield would need at least a beaver tail grip safety.

My Ruger only has 250 rounds through it, but so far it has been a flawless performer. Only minor issue I would comment on is minor burrs on the slide rail that should have been removed at the factory. I took care of it for them and notified them of the issue.

For the price differential between of $20 get the forged frame and slide of the Springfield.

Consider the Rock Island Armory line. You can get a lot of gun in the RIA Tactical. My Rock will be one of the last guns I will ever part with.

Of those listed, the Springfield wins hands down.

However, for a little extra cash, you can get a 1911 that is 100% US-made (unlike the Brazilian-made Springfield), is tighter and has more extras than the G.I. - the Ruger SR1911. The 1911 is an AMERICAN design - an AMERICAN classic. Keep it American.:)

I did a lot of shopping before getting into what other called an intro 1911.

looked at ria, citadel, and american classic - I was able to get my hands on all of them at gunshows. when compared next to each other, at the same time, on the same table - it is plain to see that the american classic has a better fit and finish.

I have well over 1.5k rounds thru mine without issue - no ftf - no ftrb with jhp fmj.

Only thing I changed out was the recoil spring and firing pin spring to wolfs - and I use act mags (came with the 1911) in addition to power mags (both brands perform the same in my 1911).

Out of those 3 I'd go with the Springfield. The price is right for the blued model, if it's stainless then that's a decent price.

Other... RIA. Because I have one, and it works. And it's more accurate than I am. And it didn't cost a lot. I'd love to have a Gold Cup, but when I'm honest with myself I'll admit that its a range/fun/load test bed gun and it's perfect for that.
