Another nod for the 27. The 4-incher is a bit rarer than the longer ones (except the 5"). After seeing the prices at the local gun show this weekend, I'd say that smith is a screamin' deal.

Deal wise the 27 sounds like the way to go. It would be the one I would go with. Have owned a GP100 4" , very nice and accurate. Currently own a 686 and used to own 3 previous to this one. But the GP100 and 686 are very common and easy to find - the 27 sounds like a hec of deal! As much as I like 686s - there is NO way I would pay $500 for a used 686. The GP would be my second choice - the price sounds right.

The price on the Model 27 Smith is :scrutiny:
Look at it HARD before you buy, but if it checks out BUY it. They will never make anything like it again.

The 686 should be less than $400!

The Ruger is priced ok, but you can ALWAYS get a Ruger.

Just to play the Devils Advocate here, last friday I bought a blued Ruger New Model Blackhawk 6 1/2 inch covertable in .357 Mag/ 9mm for $362 (Brand new from my favorite gunstore) plus tax. I realized long ago that I shoot revolvers best in single action mode, and rarely shoot double action, so it works for me. Plus, I get three choices for ammo instead of two. This gun balances well and fits my hand. I know that single action is not everyones cup of tea, but I like it. This gun will be more of a range and outdoor plinker as I have other firearms for defense.
