I've fought the urge for a .40 for years but I'm surrendering now. All I have to do is figure out which one.

I've kinda narrowed it down to one of 3:

    1. A S&W 4013TSW. I have a 4513TSW and it is one of my two carry guns (the other is a Beretta PX4compact. Both have been well worked on and are super-smooth shooters.) OTD price around $415.00 and it's in good shape or better.

    2. A S&W 4006TSW CHP: Summit has 'em for $385 and price to me would be $475.00 (shipping, FFL, and WA state tax). All stainless, probably in decent shape, nice and heavy to soak up recoil, some sentimental value as my best buddy was CHiP (although he retired still carrying a Python). I have lots of Smith pistols and would love to add to the "collection."

    3. A Beretta PX4 compact: I love my 9mm PX4 and carry it when I don't have the 4513. Think I can change slide, barrel, and mags and use the 9mm frame Langdon worked on (I gotta check on that). The PX4 gets good reviews and the rotating barrel soaks up recoil even though it's a plastic gun. Price is $419 at LGS and I know I can do a trade to absorb most of that cost. So this one will be least expensive and I'm not taking up another slot in the safe.

    So folks, wadda ya think?

    I'm a 4006 fan.

But if you're asking me which .40 to buy I'd suggest a Glock 19

I've been shooting since 1959. I've shot a bunch and owned one. I sold it less than three weeks after buying it. I'm probably not going to be looking at Glock. (Plus it's striker fired and I pretty much don't do them. My only one is an M&P 5" in 9mm.)

In all seriousness have you ever considered a CZ 75B in 40 Smith & Wesson or a CZ40?

Of those three, I'd choose the 4006. Not a Px4 fan and the 4013 strikes me as a bit small for the cartridge.

From the list, I'd select the SW4006.

My newest (to me) and favoritest 40SW at the moment is the SIG P320. But the BHP comes in at second.

As someone that owns a 3rd Gen S&W TDA gun, I think they are fine guns, but it's awful nice to own a gun that is currently in production and being supported by the manufacturer.

How about all of them? :p

My favorite .40 to date has been the P229. It was made for .40 and feels like shooting 9mm from a lighter pistol.

Sticking strictly to the list I’d go with #3, the Beretta PX4 Compact. I’ve been wanting one if those (except in 9mil) for awhile.

The Lucky Gunner video on the PX4 Compact got me too. ;)

    Going off list I’d go with a Sig P226 .40 PD trade-in.

I am a huge 3rd gen smith fan, but of the list, i would go with the beretta. Only because they are still being made and can get parts for them and have it serviced.

Don't buy any of the above you should buy a Ruger SR 40 or Ruger sr40c
    Or Springfield XDM
If you buy one used you should be able to get a great deal as many people are getting out of 40 and into 9 sadly.

    I'm also a 3rd Gen S&W fan.
My 4043 is my favorite .40, by far.
Since you have, love and carry the 4513, the 4013 is the natural choice.

On the list I’d get the PX4, I prefer something currently supported if it’s seeing much use. You’ll probably never have a problem with the 3rd Gen Smith but you never know. Off the list I’d get a police trade in SIG 226 or 229.

3rd gen Smith is the easy option. Moving from there though, there are plenty wondernine platform 40s, but the direction I would go is a Witness. Current production, well regarded, affordable. A second option would be a RIA 1911 for the same reason as the Witness.

How much are you going to shoot it? If it's going to be a "carry lots, shoot occasionally", go with a compact. If you want a range gun, that you carry sometimes, a S&W 4006 TSW is a good choice. It depends on the level of dedication to carrying a larger gun. Some of those guns just don't fit well under a tee shirt.

So's your sister. SORRY that was my inner fan boy speaking.
I would like to have one of the old S&W's.

If you can tolerate plastic, these SAR Turkish pistols are nice copies of the CZ75 polymer compact. I've owned two. One was $229 and one was $249 (plus shipping and FFL).

I still have the $249 stainless one. They both are/were completely reliable, and I really like CZ75 ergos. They both are/were good shooters with pretty good triggers. I think I recall seeing them in 40 caliber somewhere or other.
