So my current beside pistol is a .40 S&W 4006TSW CHP with a light. Perfectl;y fine and more than adequate for the job.

But I was thinking about a bigger bullet (at less velocity) instead.

My choices:
Sig P220 after a bit of trigger work and night sights by Sig

Beretta PX4 full size with night sights after trigger work by Langdon Tactical

S&W 4566TSW stock, no trigger job plain 3-dot sigths

Remington 1911 R1S with fiber-optic front sight

Wadda ya think? And maybe why?

Looking at the Tisas 4.25” Duty as my kick around 1911!

They do have a new production National Match Gold Cup ( blemish ) for sale locally

Stick with the .4006 TSW ! It is state of the art .it has more stopping power than the .45 acp in most cases IMHO .It also is safer with a round in the chamber and uncocked DA mode. Perfect for a bedroom surprise response . If your worried about over penetration use the Excellent premium 155 grain hollow points. I use165 grain hollow points and they are about the same as .45 ACP expanding loading. I would say the .4006 CHP gun with good proven magazines is more reliable than some factory 1911 types. I am serious about my evaluation for you. But if you want another gun go ahead , use it for sport and fun .But bedside you IMHO have about the top of the list . You could get Tritium big dot sights put on .not sure if the TSW has a rail , if it does I recommend the O light Baldor mounted and it's Lazer zeroed to your sights.

This is what I've got.

I have average -sized hands, so it's a bit of a reach, but it's pretty easy to hit with, especially with the laser.

I have a sig p220 police trade in that’s pulled quite a few bedside nightstand duties. I also have a tisas 1911 B45R duty that’s been on the nightstand quite a few nights. They are both as reliable as a handgun can be but anymore I just assume have a higher capacity gun on the nightstand, at least 15 rounds. I mean I have a rifle 6 feet away which is what I’ll grab if I have time, but 8 or 9 rounds of 45 when I can have 16-33 rounds of 10mm, 40 s&w, or 9mm just makes sense. Especially for the size of the guns you listed, all big fairly heavy full-sized guns with limited capacity. With that said if I put my p220 or 1911 on my nightstand right now I wouldn’t feel worried one bit. Right now at this moment my Glock G35 with Olight PL turbo Valkyrie wml and Taran tactical +3 mag extension gives me 18+1 rounds of 40s&w without a reload. I’d rather that than 8+1 in my sig or 1911.

Glock 30. Use g21 mags if you want some capacity and short mags when you want to put it someplace discreet. Carry it. Whatever, that's a compact hammer that will just plain work with zero frills. If you want frills get that hk mk23, it's a good pistol but it's kind of pricey.

I've had my share if 45 caliber semiautos, I prefer the boring glock. Nothing special.

The one you shoot well and trust to cycle. It's the boring answer, but I don't know how to handicap it any closer than that.

If you have put a lot of rounds through your S&W 4006, I'd just call that good. Buy a 45 for fun, you might even put it on your nightstand after shooting it a bunch, but an HD pistol has to be a known quantity.

Staying within your choices:

1. Remington - I would never again keep a 1911 platform as my bedside gun. I like to have a little more cushion before the first shot that a thumb safety and I don't want to have to chamber a round if i went Condition 2. If I did go with a 1911, it wouldn't be the Remington...their CQ has been inconsistent

2. Beretta - I like the Beretta and it has the "Rainbow 6 - John Smith/Ding Chavez" coolness factor. I have a Landon tuned Beretta 96 which I shoot pretty well. But the rotating barrel just feels strange...especially when shot one-handed.

3. S&W - My experience has been mostly with the full sized 4506 and I thought it was an excellent bedside gun...since size/weight doesn't matter in that usage. The 4566 should be handier with it's slightly shorter barrel. The only downside that I found with the 4506 platform is that it felt slightly oversized in my hand...much more so than the 4006 TSW; so my advice is to make sure you handle it before you decide.

4. SIG - I am bias toward the SIG 220 because I carried it for many years in LE and while traveling around the country teaching. Mine had a tuned action that Bruce Gray couldn't improve on (at least that what he said). It is comfortable, accurate, and reliable with enough trigger travel in DA for that extra "fudge factor" while coming awake. My recommendation for a bedside 220 would be a 220ST model (a lot like the 4566 in size) with the stainless steel frame. It isn't in the SIG catalog, but it is still in production for the CA market

A 1911 is at the bottom of my list for a self defense pistol. It is at the top of my list for a range / competition pistol though.

Of the OP's list I would go for the Beretta... ugly but very well designed mechanically,

My personal night stand gun is a XD mod 2 compact in .45 acp. With the short magazine I get 10 rounds in a compact package that I can slip into a jacket or robe pocket when I take the garbage to the curb. With the long clip I get a 14 round pistol that shoots like a full size with an excellent trigger.

Probably wouldn’t change if you are happy with what you have. But sometimes we all need a change, I get that. Recently decided that a .45 by the bed was what I wanted too and currently my Glock 21 is out of the depths of the safe and in the nightstand safe, forgot how nice that gun is to shoot.

That said in your list I’d go with the Beretta. Couple more rounds than the Sig and Langdon slicks them up nice. Then again the Sig would be great too, my first .45 and I’ve always had a soft spot for Sig hammer guns.

Wadda ya think?

Those are all very different handguns so I have to answer with a question...which one do you shoot the most accurately when you're in a rush and just waking up? IOW, if your life depends upon one of these guns, which one can you count on to hit the threat while you're at your worst?

I’d be happy with either the Sig or Beretta. My current bedside gun is a P220 with 10-rd magazines. I recently picked up a RIA 1911A2 doublestack with 14-rd mags. Once it’s gone through a break in, I plan to use it to replace the P220.

My downstairs quick access is an HK45. I do like the “comfort” of DA/SA as a stress guard.

Crime happens in the best neighborhoods . If it ever visits you , I hope that you survive it . I don’t plan on using my spare tire , but it’s nice to have one when you need one .

Yep. I live in a nice peaceful, quiet lazy rural area. Yet a number of years back we had a string of daylight armed home invasions in the area.

Couple meth heads went on a spree and picked “nice” neighborhoods to target.

Criminals are mobile these days and “nice” areas have lots of good stuff to steal.
