Which .45 for Bedside "Duty?"

I plan on the bad guy(s) sprinting through my house to find me or my valuables once they make it through the door. They aren't going to smash a door down and then start sneaking around inside. If my doors are solid that may give me time to prepare but otherwise I've got a second or two to grab my gun and go. If they're good at quiet entry I may not even have that.

Bottom line is I want a gun I can pick up and fire. If I didn't trust myself not to wake up fully alert I wouldn't sleep with a gun next to me.

If you're stuck with those options, I'd go P220. If you're open to other options in .45 ACP, look at the CZ 97BD (no manual safety to have to disengage) or CZ 97B (manual safety version).

As much as I love the CZ 97, I have 3 of them, CZ very stupidly discontinued the 97.
Good luck finding one and enjoy paying bloated prices of 1K and more. Might as well get yourself a Tanfoglio.

Of your choices, I vote P220 with extended 10 rd mags. I would have no issues with mine as a bedside gun, it wears a streamlight trl-1, milled for rmr and sounds pretty nice with the suppressor attached.

Would like to see a picture of that bad boy. I was thinking about getting mine milled for a rmr

Which one?

P220 police trade in. Grey gun adjustable trigger, armory craft hammer, SRT kit, skateboard tape on front grip and hogue g10 grips. 20231020_154652.jpg 20231020_154726.jpg

CZ 97, 1 of 3. CGW sao trigger job, barsto threaded barrel, magwell with +2 exts, CZ custom extended thumb safety, milled for rmr plate.

If you do get the slide milled I highly suggest the Delta Point Pro foot print

Why, the rmr has more more options optic wise and the optic themselves have a lower deck height than the dpp.

My old bedside .45 before reverting to 9mm was a Springfield XD 45. 13+1 rounds of .45acp is good medicine and the pistol has worked flawlessly since day one. A very fine pistol. The 9mm only replaced it to be a bit more user friendly for my wife.

Currently, I take off my 1911 and put it beside me when I sleep. It has a front night sight and that's it.

I've toyed with the idea of building a dedicated bedside pistol. It would start as a Taurus or Beretta 92 with a rail.

I'd install a longer barrel, about 6", and maybe have it Magna-Ported. Alternatively I'd consider a suppressor.

I'd then mount a light on the rail, and install a holosight.

The magazine would be a 20rnd Mec-Gar loaded with Cor®Bon 90grn rounds at 1500fps -- Casino loads. This would penetrate far less than either a 9mm or a .45acp, but still has a decent track record.

Regards.

Some folks like to have a 'bedside' gun. Their money, their prerogative. :)

Me? I usually use whatever retirement (and previous off-duty) gun I've been carrying that day/night.

Bottom line, whatever I choose, my preference is to use something which has seen its fair share of range use when I was serving as a firearms instructor. I want it to feel like an old, well-worn glove the moment my hand touches it in the dark.

Yeah that one, the sig p220. That’s a great setup and I’m thinking of doing something along those lines to mine as well. I don’t have a cz97 but that’s a nice setup as well.

Not to mention the dpp has way less battery life compared to trijicons and holosuns and most every other optic that fits that footprint.

The reason is. I am seeing Holosun new enclosed emmiter optics use that foot print. I believe the Signs are using it also. To me the four recoil lugs look beefier. Also the Delta Point Pro is no slouch in boing used by top competitors. .

My carry is my bedside also. This is how I actually carry. I use a RT Slide Racker assist to protect the slide since it is getting the finish worn off by leaning on my skin. I don't need it but it does make racking way more pleasant. TLR-7a Flex is decent for great for SD but for HD a bit low at 500L. I prefer to use the threaded barrel. I get 100fps more than the factory barrel and will meet box velocities. 1000003341.jpg I can always whip out the ETS 28 round mag with the 3 stage mag spring setup. 💯 and X-Grip. 1000003339.jpg
Or, just toss it in this thing with a 1000L light and green laser and IR. The red dot is 2MOA and it is Shake Awake. 1000003325.jpg
Recover Tactical 20/21 with Fox Army FXH50, SMS Laser, and a steel thread adapter.
It's my woods and truck gun but also good for HD.

If I'm going to shoot a 45 it's going to be a 1911. Only ones I have left in 45. Springfield, Sig Sauer and a Wilson Combat
Otherwise I'd get a Sig P227 or if you want a polymer, go with a P250 SA/DA.

We've drifted pretty far afield from the OP's original question of recommendations between his three choices.

Perhaps it's time to put this thread to bed
