Guys, I need a little help with a decision regarding the purchase of my next .45ACP.

Financial reasons have forced me to sell all of my .45ACP's this year, and now i'm planning on purchasing one sometime in January.

Currently I have Glock 9mm's and am extremely happy with them, and i've owned damn near every gun possible in the past 6 years.

So i have narrowed it down to these two guns based on past experiences.

I can get a S&W 625-3 4" .45ACP for $450 plus tax or I can buy a NIB Glock 21 for around $550 OTD.

Which would you prefer and why?

Thanks,
Steve

First off I own a S&W 625 45 ACP and its one of my favorite 45's period! No issues whatever with mine. On the Glock 21 I find the grip just too large. If you are happy with the Glock 9mm and the grip on the G21 fits you I would say go with the Glock 21. Most either love or hate the Glock and there seems little room in the middle .....:) ;) .

Bill,

Thanks for replying.

Sure the Glock 21's grip is big, but it does seem to fit me and point fine.

I'd just as soon get a Sig P220, but i can't stand the DA/SA transition hence my desire to stick with the Glock.

I've also been pawing quite a few 1911's, but they just don't point or feel right anymore.

The DA or SA on a revolver is fine though.

Steve,

I've got a G-21 and wouldn't get rid of it, for anything.
With that said, with today's prices of firearms and price going up every day on ammo, I think that I'd opt for the mdl 625.

I've personally always had the desire to own one, plus, the ammo is on the half or full-moon clips, and you don't have to chase your brass.

Lead bullets are accepted by the 625, whereas the Glock is not 'supposed' to shoot lead, routinely.

Plus, that mdl 625 is one gorgeous revolver. I honestly believe that revolvers are making a comeback.

That's my 2¢. Thanks for reading. . . . .

I shoot the Glock okay, but I'm more accurate with the Smith. It also feels better in my hand. The rest would be pure emotion; suffice it to say that I'll probably buy a 625 someday.

S & W 625 or Glock 21

The S & W is nice but I wouldn't give up my Glock 21 for anything. The grip feels fine to me, 6ft and 195 lbs, and I find I like the fullness a little better than my G19. I just wish it was as easy to conceal.

I have a Brommeland OWB on order and just got a good deal on a Galco Summer Special IWB to try out. Looking forward to using both.

You have to decide what fits you best and then enjoy it to the fullest.

My heart says the S&W, but the practical side says go for the Glock.

Luckily, i've got a few weeks to decide.

625, of course! You don't have to chase your brass, it's more fun, it's a revolver which means it's more fun. Did I mention it's more fun? I've wanted one, but never got one. Had an old 1917 Smith and Wesson .45 war horse. It was a big ragged out, though, but shot okay with jacketed stuff. It was NO 625, though.

Why is the Glock more practical than a moon clipped revolver? I fail to see that one.

I like them both, but $450 for the 625 is a good deal. IMHO the 625 is a far better range gun. It has a very sweet SA trigger and will also be good for HD, but I'd rather have the Glock for HD.

I want both eventually, just not sure which one first.

Once I have the cash, then I'll see what i can get the 625 for. Cash talks and the gun has been there a couple of months.

IMHO, it's all down to matters of the heart.......

Would you rather have a '69 Boss Mustang or an '07 Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel?

One has great utility, one has great style, and both perform beyond expectation.

What do you REALLY want?

625

I have lots of handguns. pistols, and revolvers.
Today I took my brand new Kimber Pro in 38 super to the range. It shoots great...... the only thing was I missed my 625. Talk about an accurate revolver, and since I love 45 auto it's a no brainer.
You have the Glock in 9mm why not branch out? By the way my 625 is a new one and has a 4" tube, loves lead [cheap] slugs and it's a Smith:)
Good luck on your purchase what ever you get.

I own a Glock 19 and a 22. When I was looking for another .45 (have three Kimber 1911's), none of the Glock .45's (21, 30, or 36) felt comfortable to me. I love my S&W revolvers, and will eventually be getting the 625, but I went with the Springfield XD45. Actually I went with two of them...one for the wife too. Both are the service model with the 4" barrels. 13 rounds of .45 ACP in each magazine, very comfortable in the hand, and very easy to shoot. Just my .02 Have fun with the hunt! :)

Stevek,

Thanks for the suggestion, but i've been down that road and wasn't impressed by the XD45. Don't take it the wrong way, it's a great gun it just didn't fit or shoot right for me.

Steve,
No problem...handguns are definitely NOT one size fits all! :) Just follow crazyhorse's advice about following your heart. Good luck, and enjoy the search! :D

As long as the 625 fits you, grab it. My 5" 625 is hands down the most accurate handgun I own. Get the synthetic moon clips from Beckham Designs, which make inserting and removing rounds from the clips much easier. They are the bee's knees for range use. If you're going to carry the gun, also get some steel moon clips, which hold the rounds more securely.

625. I like mine a lot. That's a fair price, too. They're about $650 new.

The Rimz moonclips work well, and eliminate the need for mooning and demooning tools.

Get the 625, use the Rimz clips for the range and shoot it DA (best for defense and you'd be suprised how accurate you can become with this revolver). The 625 handles recoil better than the G21 in my experience.

Had both, but got rid of the Glock 21.

I can get a S&W 625-3 4" .45ACP for $450

That's a good price for a great gun. Glocks are a dime-a-dozen, and you can always get one. The 625-3 isn't being made anymore. I wouldn't pass it up.

Good Luck...

Joe

I vote for the 625 as well...... You'll always be able to find a Glock, However a 625 at that price is an opportunity waiting....

Have truly enjoyed my 625 for years. Accurate and no brass chasing and never a feeding problem. So far as the Glock, I simply don't care for plastic in a handgun. Most people who own the Glocks really like them.
