1911 vs S&W 625: Which .45ACP?

My bride can handle the 625 better than my 1911's, so the 625 is her bump in the night handgun.

One of the 1911's is mine.

Biker's not the only guy who can carry an N-frame.

Over the last month I have developed quite an affinity for carrying my 4" redhawk with a 200gr XTP .44special load. About the same size as your 625, maybe a bit bigger.

Makes me want a Smith 329 to go with it!

I carry it in one of these holsters:

Simply Rugged, by Rob Leahy

The guy has amazing customer service, and his OWB holster that I use to carry my Redhawk is very comfortable after being broken in.

In regards to carrying a big wheelie versus a 1911, I have discovered that the grip of the redhawk revolver is easier to conceal than the 1911 grip, but the cylinder protrudes more than the slide of the 1911. To get around this, having the OWB revolver ride high on the hip hides the cylinder in the kidney area.

.45 acp in a wheelgun, you must be mad. JK But seriously, I see no point. Get the 1911 and do with it what it was designed for. Then go out and buy yourself a nice 629 and run proppr wheelgun ammo in the wheelgun. BTW, I bet you can't guess my favorite caliber. LOL

I'm a big fan of both. My N frame is a LC and I prefer ACP in a 1911.

So, to answer your question in the only way I know how, I'd have to ask what your intended use is.

To my mind, the revolver is a hunting/range pistol and if need be SD.

The 1911 is a balls-out SD pistol, accept no substitutes.

Add to this, the extra number of rounds in a 1911, the magazine holds 8 and one in the pipe, you've got 9 opportunities to do what you need to do and a tactical reload is also much easier for the average joe.

The revolver is sweet to shoot, no chasing your brass and accurate without a doubt, but as to accuracy, a good 1911 is also a one-big-hole pistol.

I'd advise you to get both. Get the one you want most now and scoop up the other one later.

BTW, I don't intend to sound like a Walter Mitty type. Getting into a gunfight will (hopefully) never become a reality for us, so total rounds and reloads is strictly an academic exercise.

I'll be keeping the 625 and picking up a 1911 when money permits.

Right now my .45AC's are mostly for the range, but hopefully they will get back to being my home defense guns again. I really need the funds to pick up some quality self defense ammo in .45acp first though.

EDC= Extreme Deep Carry ...... Oh, now I know where you guys conceal carry those N frames

Slightly behind the hip, tucked in tight in a comfortable holster!;)

Go with what fits your hand, dress, and life style.

For me I keep a 625 .45acp Mountain Gun for snakes and dogs when working the property. I got a few acres. Snake loads will not cycle a semi auto.

Also when one hand is occupied on the steering wheel of a machine, or something similar I, maybe not you, have an easier time still controlling the machine and shooting one handed with a revolver. Now remember this is me and what I am used to. Not you.

On the 1911 I very, very, very, very, much like the flat way it fits inside the waist band and also the ease of point. Again, this is my hand.

Best in what ever you prefer or fits you needs.

Gun Nut,

Your 625 is a pre-lock, pre-MIM gun with chrome hammer/trigger and a rare 4" barrel. Don't part with it easily. They will never be making them again.
