I'm looking for a new 9. Just looking for opinions. I'm looking at all of these. It'll just be a range/HD gun. I already have a good carry gun so that's not what I'm looking for. I generally prefer more medium sized guns compared to full size (hence the P229 instead of 226 and Glock 19 instead of 17) but all of those up there will do just fine. As i said, size isn't a huge factor. I just want opinions to help narrow my search.

No poll for me to see .... but this is my current wish list for nines!

My next buy will probably be a compact (not eh sub compact) Beretta PX4.
Close competitor here is the FNP-9m. (Also the compact version.)

The Beretta because it has that nifty rotating barrel, and looks nice ... the trident on it helps as well. And the FNP because it kinda looks like my PT911 that I can't find holsters for. So I could find a similar gun that I can find holsters for.

Yay! Poll is visible now. I clicked PX4 for obvious reasons.

92fs I like how it shoots and feels in my hand.

Other guns not on your list, M&P 9, love the trigger and feel, and Sig P226, great gun.

I love my CZ SP01 Phantom, so I picked its cousin the regular SP01.

They're all great guns though. Couldn't go wrong with any of them. Although, my personal preference, I'd stay away from the H&K's.

if I HAD to, a BHP, but BHP's also offered a .40.
I would never buy a 9mm pistol, but I do like to shoot my friend's Sig 229.
There are enough CCW handy 45ACPs to choose from so, except for the well shooting BHP .40 - that I'd buy for my wife as we both like how it shoots and looks, I would not buy a .40 either.

I am just as effectively accurate, or inaccurate, under timed fire with 9, 40, or 45, so might as well keep it simple. I hate how 9mms bullets bits blow back on bowling pins. No such issues with 230 grains.

Coroners, medical examiners, need to "dig" less often for 45s.

any of them would be fine though, in a pinch.

Other options

Full size Springfield XDM or Taurus PT92/99
From those you listed I would go with the FNP, it has good ergonomics, is accurate and high quality. A couple years back the FNP 9mm included 3 mags, a holster, dual mag holder and even a yellow plastic dummy barrel for "training". If you could still find one of those package deals, its a lot of value for the money.

Unfortunately, I don't own any of those. But I do have a Springfield XDm 9mm, which I love. Points well. Balanced. Good feel to it. Have you taken a look at them? Certainly can't beat them on capacity, at 19+1. Unless, of course, you already have one. :)

I do hear good things about the HK USP's and Sig's. You have several nice choices on the list.

Sig 229. I have a P228 and absolutely love it. When I decided to liquidate my (admittedly small) collection so that I could better afford more toys, my 228 was the only pistol that I kept. It is very accurate, reliable, has a great trigger and fits my hand perfectly.

MrSpiffy, I actually do have an XDM. It's in .40. And I have an XD in .45. I love them both :) I'd agree they are great guns. But it's time for some more variety!

Charlie Echo, I see where you're coming from. But in my opinion, caliber is much less of an issue if you can put your rounds where you want. I saw somewhere before someone said "I'd rather be facing an amateur with a .45 ACP than Rob Leatham with a .22". I couldn't agree more.

I am most familiar with glock pistols out of the ones you have listed on your poll, so I would pick glock. I'm sure any of them would be fine though.

Of that list I'd buy the 92FS first (I want one anyway, it's on my list), the Sig second and the G19 third, all great guns that won't let you down.

I just recently made my 9mm decision, and it was a Browning Hi Power. I couldn't be happier, since it handles just like my 1911's and 9mm is cheap to shoot. It feels great in the hand, point's very naturally, and the trigger is starting to smooth out nicely (It's a little gritty due to the mag safety). It's more accurate than I am, and it's been 100% so far with the cheap Remington 115gr bulk ammo I've been feeding it.

SIG with night sights, or the G19 with night sights, the fulsize CZ SP-01 would be a good choice if you have the trigger worked on by a competent smith. The P229 is a classic service pistol that should fit the need and perform like a larger pistol, I have CZ, Glock, H&K, SIG. Of your choices i would get the SIG. My choice would be an STI 9mm 1911 with again night sights, they shoot so good, really pull out all the potential of the 9mm round, just my 2 cents.

P7M8. Great shooter, and unique mechanism.

Beretta 92FS. Everyone should have your countries battle pistol.

Browning Hi-Power. John Moses Browning's design. What's not to love?

Glock 19/17/34. Glock is everywhere.

Smith and Wesson 690. A 9mm backup wheel gun. That's the ticket.

I voted for glock 19 only because I have experience with the glock platform and for your purposes, the glock 19 would be great. Any of the others would probably be great too.

I have a Glock 19, My next choices would be a BHP, SIG or a Keltec P-11.
The BHP just fits my hand where a CZ type does not, Also it is just such a classic.
The SIG also fits my hand but looks clunky to me and it rides high in the hand for me.
I would like a Keltec because it just plain works, follows the KISS principle.

BHP it fits my hand and poins naturally. After removing the mag disconnect the trigger is normally very good and can be improved even further by lightening the main spring using a wolf spring. Lots of aftermarket support from people like C&S, Novak etc.... It is my favorite 9mm of all time.

Sig P228 because it is rock solid. It runs and you can load it with 17+1 with P226 mags and the proper mag base. It points and shoots well and I am yet to find a better DA/SA 9mm. It is a perfect all around combat gun. Small enough for CCW but perfect for range and HD.

Browning Hi-Power. John Moses Browning's design. What's not to love?

Just as a side note the BHP is more Dieudonne J. Saive's design than JMB.
