Which AR-15 should I get? Not counting high ends. I was wanting a Colt bad but the new stocks are HIDEOUS! wut do? Should I just get another decent one cause at least it wont look like a toy or should I get the Colt and buy the old stock? I cant believe they changed stocks just to save a dollar. If you look at the prices the old one costs $20 dollars more and makes it look identical to the M4.

Get the rifle you want and swap the stock out if that is all you do not like.

You might find someone to sap with you for an older stock.

^Sounds like a good idea but Im a noob is taking off a stock and putting on a new one something I could do or do I need to take it to a gunsmith to do it right? Would the old style stock be hard to find?

Yes but if this "noob" is wanting to purchase one, the price is what the price is. And to answer his question, the stock can be replaced in a few seconds without any tools. Pay attention to whether or not the buffer tube is milspec or commercial.

Walmart sells them for $1097. I plan on going there around the time they get their gun shipment everyday, eventually I'll get lucky. Was there for 2 hours today and no shipment came in and yesterday no AR's. They had a Colt the day before that but I figured theres no way they would have one and I missed out! Went to the Gun Show today and they're $3000. Seems like a small price to pay with how things are nowadays and its pretty sweet Im the only one who waits over there. Local Academy has people waiting outside starting at 2:30am. The place across the street has one but its $3000. Times are rough.

Goodluck finding the 5.56 ammo , thats another hurdle to deal. Good luck though.

To answer your question honestly, if you MUST have an AR-15 style rifle right now, you will be limited to accepting what you can find, as the supply is a wee bit strained right now.

I passed on a S&W M&P today at $1500.00. There was also a BM at 1500. Add $250 for the MOE furniture hung all over it.
Last week this same LGS had exactly 1 S&W 15-22 and 1 Colt 22. Today the racks were full of ARs. If you want a Colt get ready to go to the hip. Heck, if you want any AR you're gonna have to dig deep.
It depends on what you want an AR for as to which AR you should get. Anyone can buy an AR and hang a bunch of do dads on it. Most I've used have worked very well but they were all range toys.

wait till the supply is up in about a 1-2 years and buy a Rock River!! or pay 2-3 x the cost for whatever you can find.

I will be honest, I would go after a Colt, S&W, BCM, or other big name. They have a good reputation for a reason. As far as the stock, if that is all that is stopping you from getting a Colt, meh.... Get it and change the stock.
