Now that said, since you mentioned she didn't like the "fat" grips of some of the guns that are in the family, have her check out the Kahr's, the CZ 100 series, Steyrs MA1 series (the older S series is a compact) and also remember there are a # of companies (S&W, Springfield etc) that are making pistols with interchangeable backstraps which should increase comfort levels for those with smaller hands. She may find a "full-size" works just as well for her, and I would also suggest she check out some revolvers as well
Just remember that ultimately it is HER choice and she needs to find out what works best for her.
Best of luck and let us know what She decides! :)

Really? So ALL women are gun nuts like us,intimately familliar with every critical aspect of this very important decision (DA trigger reach, proper grip, bore axis height, etc.)? No doubt *some are*,but I haven`t met too many and if she were you wouldn`t be asking the question.
Left to her own devices my wife, who is at best an occasional shooter couldn`t tell a Raven Arms .25 from a Rohrbaugh R9 if her life depended on it. She picked out guns she was "interested" in based largely on how they *looked* rather than how they`d work for her. She needed some technical guidance, some education on various aspects, some range time with various guns. Then once we`d narrowed down the field to guns that would do the job and work for her from a technical standpoint her personal preferences came into play. She ended up with a Colt Gov`t Pocketlite .380,which wouldn`t have been either of our first (or even second) choice but it fits her perfectly and she hits really well with it. I have a number of guns I would have thought more suitable that she just can`t shoot worth a darn, mainly because she has a real problem with trigger reach and DA triggers (small, weak hands). She didn`t care for the looks of the Colt so we dressed it up with some custom grips to "make it her own". Basically I`m saying at the end of the day all that matters is that the gun selected really works for her but it would be negligent not to advise and help guide her on the technical aspects of the selection process toward that end.
Off the soapbox,I`d make sure she got to try an XD9 SC and see what she thinks. The grip shape is based on the CZ but the trigger reach is much shorter,it`s lighter and the grip is slightly smaller. Marcus

Marcus...

Read the whole post my friend...

Your job is to take her to a GOOD retail store where she can look at several and pick the one she likes. Sure you can offer advice from time to time, but ultimately the choice is hers and hers alone.

In all that you said... you could have said "I agree."

What a pointless rant. No one is saying let her pick up a .25 for self defene they are saying let the lady choose the weapon that she may one day use to defend her life. He is hoping to point her in the right direction not choose for her. Which is exactly what you did in the end. So why are you puffing up your chest and making an arguement out of this? :banghead:

Most men who purchase guns for the women in their lives end up buying more than one because they choose based on their needs and wants not the actual shooter of the gun. Chillout

Now back to the topic at hand. CZ P01 or PCR are both good choices. This allows one to carry in a DA/SA configuration. Glock 19 also a very good choice for CCW. Do not discount the Taurus Mill Pro 9mm. They can be had for under $300.

If it were me I would look at the Sig P225 or the Sig P228 with a short trigger installed. The P225 would be my first choice. SLim single stack version of the P220 in 9mm.

Good luck.

The Glock 19 is a good choice if it fits her hand. If she has REALLY small hands, maybe one of the Kahrs - like the TP9 ("long slide" polymer frame) would be a good choice. The Sig 239 is also very popular with people with small hands...

Regards,

Kevin

I own a p239 also but it does not compare with the balance and feel of the p225. I would not get too hung up on capacity. It is hits that count not how many you have in the clip.

The Glock 19 is also a fine choice.

P.S. You can always carry extra mags. :)
