My 21 year old daughter has been bitten by the firearm bug. In addition to shooting (very accurately, no less!) my DPMS LR308 and Bushy A3 .308, she has fired my CZ75B, and my son's Springfield 9mm and Glock in .45. She's interested in purchasing a 9mm compact pistol for target and personal protection. Her only complaints about the above three pistols is that the grips are thick and don't fit her hands for single-hand firing. She was very comfortable with my CZ except for the grip-she shot the black out of the target at 50'. Not bad for a first timer. None of the nearby dealers carry CZs, so we couldn't let her handle one of their Compacts. She wants at lest a 10 round mag, and preferably a 14 round. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thom

Browning Hi Power is another good option I think. Or the smith and wesson 9mms, the 3913 is single stack (8rds I think?), and very thin, and the 6906 is thicker (12rds I think)

The S&W 908S is a good one as well as the CZ PO1. I own both and have to fight my wife for both.:)

Have her try a Glock 19 (15 rd mags) -which is thinner than their .45s, except for the G36 single stack...if the G19 grip is still too thick, then try a Kahr K-9 (7 rd mags)......or possibly, as Rob1035 suggested, the Browning High Power (13 rd mags)...all these pistols have trigger actions that are the same for each shot, no transitions from double action to single action.

My daughter got her Glock 19 at about age 13--took it to Gunsite at age 20. It has worked well for her, and her hands are not all that big. We also had quite a few female agents at work and they almost universally chose the G19.

Worth a look.

My wife is pretty average sized (5'6", 125lbs) and my XD-9 SC fits her hand wonderfully. The stock mags hold 10 rounds, but for the range you can get the extended mags that hold 16!

Although it's not exactly what you asked for, I echo the CZ 83 suggestion. Terrific grip, very smooth trigger action, good magazine capacity, a nail driver, and "ALMOST" a 9.

USP9 Compact is a very nice shooter. A little pricey but very reliable, accurate, easy on the recoil, cheap mags, eats all ammo, a gun to depend on for a long time.

Like a kid at the candy store... many choices...ain't life sweet!:)

I can't speak about alot of other models becasue, frankly, I haven't had owned any other handgun beyond my XD9 SC. What I can tell you though is that I TRULY enjoy this gun in EVERY way, and have no problem recommending it to anyone.

Agree on give the CZ-83 a look. Very comfortable grip, little recoil, and superb trigger. Very accurate as well.

Or look at the Kahr 9mm's, they're all thin.

+1 for the XD-9
I recently purchased a used XD-9 SC because it was a good deal ($210 with mags and case) and brought it home. My wife took an interest in it and liked the way it felt in her hand. We have not had a chance to shoot it so I can't give you any feedback yet.

Thinner Grips:

Heckler & Koch P2000 (13+1) or P2000SK (10+1) ~$710-$745, as mentioned above.
H&K also offers the P7M8, though it holds (8+1), weighs ~3 more ounces (all steel) than the p2000sk, and is a bit pricey, it is worth every penny of it's ~$1300 price tag.

Burns Custom Pistols does nice grip reductions on glock model pistols : http://www.burnscustom.com/

SIG has a single-stack 9x19 called the P-239. (8+1)
They used to make a P-225 single-stack. (?rds)
In .380 ACP is the (8+1) P-232

Best of Luck,

Keltec Pt-11 or wait till they bring out the PF-9, which is what I am looking for. It is a single stack DAO that is quite small and should be very concealable.

Due out in May

Let her handle some Kahr models, P9, K9, very accurate for there size, and all three of mine have been 100% out of the box. Nice triggers and very easy to conceal. If she can handle the size of the G19, excellent choice also!

If you can find a CZ-75D PCR to let her try do it. Its slimmer and more compact than the P-01, but still has the lighter alloy frame.

The one SHE likes.
Butt out.

+1

Your job is to take her to a GOOD retail store where she can look at several and pick the one she likes. Sure you can offer advice from time to time, but ultimately the choice is hers and hers alone.

Us macho dudes need to let our ladies make the selection, they are more than capable.

Blessings
