so ive pretty much narrowed it down to 3 choices... but they are difficult for me to decide between.

The CZ 75 compact .40 $450

the H&K usp compact .40 $795

The Taurus PT940 $475ish

if your response is other... please keep in mind that it MUST have a manual safety so i can carry condition 1

AND if you have any negative experiences / positive experiences with any of the guns listed please share them. I just like to do my homework before i buy something i plan on keeping for a LONG time.

The HK is one of the best out there, period. However, it doesn't necessarily give you that much more than the CZ, depending on what you need from the gun. The CZ is an excellent and often underrated weapon. The HK has better resale value. But if you're intending to keep the weapon, either will do. The Taurus is okay, but in my opinion, the quality is not up to par with the other two you mentioned. Perhaps the best option is to go with the CZ, then save up later and get an HK if you still are enamored with it. Otherwise, if given the opportunity, try all three and see which satisfies you the most.

You can get the CZ or the Taurus alot cheaper more in the 400-460 range delivered. Out of the 3 the CZ wins hands down.

I have the CZ 75 Compact in 40 S&W and like it. It is not a lite weight as it is all steel which is why I got it. Two 10 round mags and good fit/feel.
Mine does not like Remington/UMC ammo, the yellow 250 round box ammo.
Price was $420 if I remember correctly.

If you are limited to .40 and to manual safety, I'd say Browning HiPower. Slimmer than the other offerings, by a lot, and therefore easier to carry. In your price range, too. One of the best pistols in the world.

USP 40c

Of your three candidates I would go with the H&K USP 40c. I would eliminate Taurus because of the poor quality reputation of the brand, and the CZ because of its weight compared to the H&K, since you are using this for carry.

I've had the USP 40c for a couple of years and it is an excellent gun - reliable, accurate and easy to conceal. I trust it completely. Mine has the stainless slide, and my favorite holster is a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard.

Have you shot the 40's yet?

Just making sure, a lot of guys want an "in between" round more punch than a 9mm but not quite the slow 45. My neighbor shot all my 45's and said they recoiled a bit to much for him and could not shoot them accurately.

He did not want a 9mm and wanted something with more power, so he settled on a 40 before firing it.

He quickly realized that the higher pressure round of the 40 is much "snappier" than the 45 and tends to jump a bit more. Long story short he tried the 45's again and actually shot much better with them and was a bit disappointed.

Light frame and slide 40's will jump quite a bit. Just make sure you try a few before purchasing if you can.

lol i hate you... i want the usp stainless but NOBODY has it... NOBODY. they stopped selling it and nobody can get it. thats the main reason im thinking about getting the cz or the taurus, because i would be angry if i got the blued one and then felt stupid because i finally found the stainless.

Another stainless USP for you, Nix

I like the stainless myself, Nix. They are not very common but they look good. I also have the USP 45 in stainless, shown below.

lol now your just being mean pogo2 :)

beautiful guns man... absolutely beautiful

like a .45 ACP; of which I prefer 1911's

Is this the same Ala Dan that loved his W. German Sig P220 so much for all of those years?:neener:

Out of your choices I would choose the USPc if money is no problem, otherwise you would be well covered by the CZ. I personally would pass on the Taurus.

Yep. thats me alright~! :D

Now, that I'm retired from an active duty LEO status; I find myself in love
with 1911's, as they are much more fun too shoot. ;) I guess that is why
I spent over 15 C-notes for a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special~! :scrutiny::cool:

FWIW, the West German SIG-SAUER .45 caliber P220A is now relegated to "SAFE
QUEEN" and HOME D' duty; as it serves that purpose very well, even without night
sights~!

Of the choices given: The HK or the CZ, whichever one you are most comfortable with and shoot the best.

ROLL TIDE

My Hk 40 is awesome. I think out of the choices you got up there it is the best.

Don't discount the FNPs, my 9-M has been stellar. Only malfunctions I can get it to do are limp wristing with 1 additional finger (other than my trigger finger)and my thumb on the grip. The gun will eat anything, including nasty reloads. I'm thinking about the .45 when it's releasted I'm so impressed.
