I am trying to decide which gun to carry for everyday concealed carry. The two guns are both 1911's, but they are different.

First Gun;

S&W 1911 Gov't in Blue
Steel Frame
45 ACP

Second Gun:

Kimber Pro Carry II Commander in Stainless
Alloy Frame (considerably lighter)
40 S&W

I like the stopping power of the 45, but like the lighter weight of the 40. They both hold the same number of rounds, 8+1.

I am carrying in a Galco Summer Comfort IWB with FBI tilt.

Any thoughts would be apprecieated.

They will both do swimmingly. :D
Wear the one that feels most comfortable. Or alternate.
Lighter is conducive to more carry, that is for sure.

If you shoot one better than the other, carry that one.
Otherwise I'd go with the lighter weight as both calibers are quite adequate for social work.

Both are good stoppers. Less weight means better comfort (i.e you will be more apt to carry it longer). It really boils down to a gut feeling about it though. And you have to realize that if you have to use it you will loose it until the investigation is over. I really wouldnt like having all those gun experts at the local law enforcement agency playing with my CDP.

Since they both have the same capacity I would go with the 45.

I'm a lightweight fanatic when it comes to carrying anything. The reason for this is that, generally, lightweight=more comfortable to carry.

Thanks guys. I was just wondering if the less powerful 40 conpared to the 45 was enough to make it worth carrying the heavier one. The Kimber is more comfortable. I will go with the Kimber.:)

<snark>You need to upgrade to .50GI to get real stopping power!</snark>
Carry whichever shoots better, or is lighter, or that you practice more with, or the one you won't cry over a worn finish on.
