Got my CCL! Now which to carry? HELP!

attachment.php

Colt series 70, LW Commander, 45acp w/extended slide stop, full length guide rod

SIG 220, night sights, 45acp

Astra A-75, 9mm (Please don't flame me for this one, it fires everything put in it without complaint, and is accurate to boot!)

The knife is carried everywhere I go!

Rossi 38sp, 2"bbl ( Again, I have had NO complaints with the accuracy)

S&W M60-10 357mag, 3" bbl

Uberti SAA 4 3/4"bbl 45LC

I have carried wll of these at one time or another, even have a IWB holster for the SAA!

Put some good grips on Commander (rubber type suck for CC they grab clothing and print weapon.) Ditch the extended slide release ( many holsters don't work with them and not really needed)
Get a UBG Holster IWB ot OWB I have both. and your ready to gohttp://ubgholsters.com

WHY this or that particular weapon?

The extended slide stop allows me, with my small hands, to operate the stop without tilting or twisting the weapon.

If it's not too bulky for you, the P220 is one of the finest pistols ever made. As an alternative the Astra or the Rossi 38 would be fine, though I"d rather have the real mccoy handguns they're based on. (The P225 and the S&W Model 36, respectively)

Astra or Rossi, based upon size and weight. Choose the most reliable and the one you are most comfy with regardless of any recommendations. Whichever you choose, practice your self defense drills with it while you plink with the rest.

On the rubber grip note, they are sticky. I just started carrying my S&W CS40 auto in a UBG Striker holster. UBG's are great holster for the dollar BTW, great workmanship by Nate, the proprietor. The rubber grip is a bit uncomfortable when sitting where it mates with my love handles, and it catches clothes more than you would like.

Sigs are great too, and I prefer the 45 over a 9mm everyday. However, a good beltis the very foundation of comfort for carrying. To start, if your cheap like me...uh hmm, frugal, JCPenney had work belts that were double layer leather for $15 bucks. Mine has held up good enough for 3 or 4 months that I'm considering a better belt now It's a good start, but if money is not an issue, I'd order a belt with your first holster and ask if you get a volume discount or something. Again, UBG can fit the bill here also.

I also recommend HBE leatherworks, however UBG has a much more net friendly shopping process IMO.

Which are you most confident with?

In your position, I would carry the gun that:

1) Is reliable
2) I can shoot well
3) Will get carried often (this worn out saying applies: a 22 on your person is better than a 45 in the safe)

So, which gun hits 1 through 3 the best for you? Reliability is the most important factor, IMO. So if any of those guns have given you a significant number of fits, set it to the side. Tough call, I suppose, and ultimately only you can make that call. For example, I shoot 1911s and revolvers best. I plan on carrying a 1911, but only in the winter when I dress a little heavier. So for me, I would most likely carry the Rossi or the Model 60. That is what I am most comfident with.

But what's right for me won't be right for the next guy.

I have carried wll of these at one time or another, even have a IWB holster for the SAA!

I like your style :D . There are a few people out there that carry a replica of the 1873 Single Action Army. It seems without exception, they are all excellent shots. So hey, if it works for you, go for it! Just remember to leave an empty chamber under the hammer, as the Uberti does not have a transfer bar safety. If I weren't a SA noob, I would be more tempted to carry a Single Action Army myself. They just point shoot so darned easily. Amazing.

Also, how do you plan on carrying? If you want to pocket carry, then the Rossi is the only true pocket gun represented. IWB opens up a lot of other options.

Have fun picking ... nice collection BTW! My father and I both have our eyes on Ubertis very similar or identical to yours.

I useally carry IWB. been packing the S&W 60-10 the last few days. SS so sweat dosen't seem to bother it. The temp is a BIG factor in CC here in SE Texas!

I recommend carrying the one with which you are most comfortable shooting (accurately, I might add), and you can conceal well.

No, no, no! You guys got it all wrong! This is the perfect excuse to buy and try a variety of handguns. Try what you've got (especially the Sig and the S&W), then buy a Glock 23 and give that a try. Later, you can try a Kel-tec... (Guns are like Lay's potato chips, ya know...)

I predict you will wind up with a drawer full of holsters, too. :D

B yond , Are you refering to the wear marks on the knife? It comes by them naturally as I have worn it for over 20yrs and use it every day. It is a Cold Steel Tanto folder that is out of production for the last 10yrs!

Fletcher, I shoot each well, either RH or LH. RH is a LITTLE better! I average 400rnds per month with these weapons.

sacp81170a, I have a lot of holsters! I am, however having trouble finding a RH IWB for the Smith. It has a 3" bbl, it seems MOST of them carry a 2"-21/2" barrels.

my first choice would probably be the 60. when it's cooler and i could cover it with more clothing, i'd go with the sig. both nice weapons, BTW...

You can carry anything if you dress for it - even in Texas. In S.Fla. I carry a H&K P2000 99% of the time. The other 1% it's a Jframe or KT P11 in a pocket holster. Carry what is most comfortable for you with your mode of dress. By the way - go into a Nordstrom's, Macy's or Bloomie's and look at the mannequins (in the men's department - you don't want to seem "strange"). The way that they're dressed is layered perfectly for CCW. That's why lots of us wear silk Hawaiian shirts. ;)

All that said - I'd settle on two guns - each with the same trigger system. One full sized and one pocket sized. Either the SIG or Astra- both DAs with the Rossi or 60(as a backup or deep concealment primary when necessary). The first trigger stroke will be the same - DA- and you don't have to worry about a manual safety. That's one reason why a lot of guys/girls/gov agencies are going to DAO H&Ks, SiGs and Glocks. Then train with your choices so that they're an extension of your arm and totally natural to manipulate.

I do tend to favor the A-75. Will probably have a brushed nickle finish applied to help prevent sweat rusting.
Are there any other coatings that will do the same, at an affordable price?

PS Finding holsters to fit the A-75 is difficult. Nobody carries them in stock.
