Bushmaster? Colt? Opinions?

When do you guys think they will be readily available?

Well, you're going to get a heckuva lot of opinions.

I acknowledge Colt as the best out-of-the-box M4 - M4 feedramp cuts, M4 handguards, true military buffer, etc. They also use the 1/7 twist in their barrels.

Bushmaster is what I have, and it's good value for your money (mine runs like a champ - eats Wolf ammo all day and asks for seconds :) ). I recommend it to anyone.

The general consensus by those in the know is that Colt has the most consistant quality. You may want to read the thread titled "AR15 Deficiencies" on www.tacticalforums.com. People who know alot more about AR's comment (armorers, carbine school instructors, etc.)

Thanks Mulliga, that is exactly what I'm looking for - opinions. Hoping I can get some more!

Bushmaster or Rock River Arms.

RRA just got a M4A3 contract for the FBI/DEA for patrol rifles. 5,000 of them. :)

If you really want to get the latest and greatest that everyone is buzzing about on AR15.com, check out Lewis Machine and Tool (LMT for short).

As with anything else, how much are you willing to spend?:) For some ideas on the high end check out any of Zak Smiths picture threads.

I had a similar question and I'll share the answers I got...

The Colt 6920 M4 will come with a 16" barrel with a flash supressor added to the end. It will have a 1 in 7 twist and m4 lugs.

The Bushmaster XM15 will have a 14.5" barrel with a permanetly attached phantom supressor, giving it a total length of 16". The Bushmaster has a 1 in 9 twist and rifle lugs.

Most of the answers I got suggested getting one of each  I think that's what I might do :)

Bushmaster will do a 1/7" upper if you call them up - you may have to wait (or so I have read on another forum).

I have a 14.5" 1/7" LMT upper, chrome lined/w M4 feed ramps, permanent phantom I am very happy with. I got it from www.jtacsupply.com - quick turn around.

http://www.adcofirearms.com also carries them, they will add a permanent phantom FS to a 14.5" if you are looking for a total length of 16" for non-NFA. I have made a number of orders for parts, stocks, etc and have been happy with their service.

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com carries LMT uppers as well, but are currently not offering a 14.5" option/w permanent phantom FS. I have placed one order with them which they turned around quickly and communicated via email the 2 day delay because the magpul stock I ordered was temporarily out of stock.

Also, this place http://www.cmmginc.com has M4A3/A4 uppers 1/7", chromelined, M4 feed ramps and these uppers have received good reviews. I have not ordered from them, but did exchange some emails and they answered my queries. If I ever feel a need for another 14.5" upper, I'll go this way.

All of the above will do 16" with A2 FS too.

The 1/7" twist and M4 feed ramps are not "must haves" but I get them if I can. 1/9" will handle up to 70 gr bullets, and most will handle up to 75 gr. I really do like chrome lining (for a blaster, CQB, etc) as it adds to the durability of the barrel, so I look hard for that option. All the above qualify there.

I currently do not recommend Colt as it seems they have decided to take an official position to not offer "EBRs" to civilians. Not a suprise since they started doing away with FS on their rifles prior to the AWB.

Unless that Colt says "MT6400C" on the side it is not as nice as it should be. Bushmaster makes nice lowers, and nice barrels too, but if you get a bolt carrier from them make sure it is properly staked. A lot of upper receiver options out there, if you don't want anything fancy at least get a flattop, you will be glad later. Start with 5.56mm/.223 and you can't go wrong.

Strictly a business decision and in addition thereto, a correct one
