Which one is a better 1911, Ruger or Remington ?

The only comparison I have between the Remington and the Ruger is when I was shopping at the LGS. The stainless Ruger simply felt more comfortable and better balanced in my hand. It was on sale, so I bought it as my 1st 1911 and my 1st .45 ACP.

I have had only 1 opportunity to shoot it so far, but in that 1 hour it spit out the cheap Blazer steel-cased 220 gr. that I fed it accurately and reliably.

I like it!

Ruger or Remington 1911 .45 ?

Remington, hands down, if you want pretty ! Rock Island Armory, if you want performance balanced with value.:D

Both are good. You really can't go wrong with either one. I think the Ruger is a better value. I recently bought the Ruger. I do like that it doesn't have the firing pin safety. No I don't feel that a FPS screws up the trigger pull, I just don't think it's needed. But to each their own.

Remington and Ruger each make their own 1911s!

Guys Remington, and Para is having a 100 dollar rebate right now, so I f you want a Remington or Para, "Para is $75.00 off" you should move on it.

For the guys suggesting other brands, the OP asked about Ruger and Remington. And do realize that CDNN Sports is selling the Rem R1 for $477 right now and the R1 Enhanced for $637!!! This is allot of very good gun for the money and they are USA made. At these prices Colts and Springfields cost allot more. Here is a pic of my R1 Enhanced. And just checked the SS R1 is $523 and the SS R1 Enhanced is $675. At these prices it would be hard to go wrong.

Does CDNN sell to individuals or do they only sell to ffl's. I know that you would have to go through a dealer to transfer, but thought that I read that they will only sell directly to the dealer.

They sell to individuals. I am on their email list and get weekly sale info and their prices are great. I paid $788 last year, for my R1 Enhanced, and at the time it was the best deal on the web. That was from Grabagun but the deals now are much better at CDNN, for a Rem or a Para.

"COLT just a little more and worth it."
Amen brother. I'm always a bit confused as to why, when someone wants a 1911 they seem to look at everything but the original. I know there are a lot of choices out there, but in my mind a 1911 is a colt just like a .357 is a Smith.
Probably a symptom of age and nostalgia!

I used to feel that way, until I saw a lot & owned a couple of really sub par Colts back in the mid 90s. Saw a new Combat Elite on the shelf at one store that would not even go into battery.
Now I know things have improved a lot at Colt these days, and I would consider one now. But I'm sure I'm not the only one to see those sorry guns back then.
During this time frame SA was making a 1911 clone, that didn't feel quite right as the grip was slightly different. Quality was good, but most reguarded it as a poor man's substitute. Then along comes Kimber, making a quality (at least compared to what Colt was putting out) 1911 with many custom features that previously could only be had by taking your gun to a gunsmith. Beavertails, extended thumb safeties, undercut triggerguards, improved sights, etc.
It was the perfect storm for Colt. Poor quality on their part, newcomers making a superior product. Then the 1911 market exploded.

Remington.

Bought both, have had the opportunity to test three Ruger specimens in total. I'll not buy another one. Too many problems from the get go.

After leaving with a bad taste in my mouth, I bought an R1 and have been happy ever since. As for the "feel", they're 1911's...never found them to feel any different aside from grips.

I thought all 50 states "allowed" 1911s as long as u use 7 or 8 round mags!
Maybe he lives in Cali, where there's now a defacto ban on new semiautomatic pistols being sold by FFLs. They have a roster of "safe handguns" they're allowed to buy, and (I believe) as of 2014 one of the requirements for a "safe handgun" to be included is including microstamping technology on the firing pin. The problem of course being that microstamping technology doesn't actually exist outside of movies and TV. :uhoh:

To me if you get into the step up Remmingtons like the R1 enhanced, they seem tighter. But they are going for considerably more cash. I wouldn't buy a GI model 1911 for self defense, to me the advantages of the larger beavertail, enhanced safeties, beveled mag wells, and improved sights are essential in a SD 1911. The only thing I would buy a base GI 1911 for would be a range gun safe queen.

For the money, the Ruger SR 1911 is the best value on the market, and if you want to step up you almost have to pay the $200 more for Kimber Custom or Remington R1 enhanced. The Springers in those price ranges are Brazilian made frames, and the parkerized finish on the range officer doesn't hold up in a showcase, much less to hard use.

The advantages you'll get if you spend the extra guns are tighter fit and finish on the enhanced and a better trigger on the Kimber. But the Ruger is a great value, and probably would sell if it retailed for $200 more.

I find my R1 plenty tight after several thousand rounds, and its not the enhanced model. As for non-GI models for self defense, I see only the extended safety being a benefit. I practice plenty with fluid mag changes with all of my sidearms. The lowly R1 is no exception.

Burk, the Rugers are good values but if you read through the thread you would know that right now CDNN sports is selling the R1 for $477 and the R1 Enhanced for $637, which makes them killer bargains.

I preferred the Ruger over the Remington due to features, 300 rounds so far no issues, course I like my springer, colt and SIG too! Have you considered the springer mil spec? In same price range as the Ruger.

To be honest, they're pretty equal. And that's to say they're both pretty good. Oh, some 1911 snobs will look down their noses at them. Don't let that bother you one little bit. I think you'd be happy with either.
