Which one is a better 1911, Ruger or Remington ?

Got to handle the R1 when I was shopping for my first 1911 but held out until I could get a Ruger. Glad I waited, love my SR1911.

Personally I would chose remington over ruger. A friend had the ruger and the best group we could manage out of 3 different types of ammo was about 10" at 20 yards on a rest. Too be fair his was the only sr1911 ive shot so i cant speak for all. Plus i really cant stand rugers warning label...it needs to go away.

Anybody know for certain whether the old style, arched GI, mainspring housing will fit into either of these pistols? I do not care for the flat mainspring housing.

Thanks

In my experience the Springfield Milspec is the best bang for your buck. I have all 3 of them Ruger, R1 and the Parkerized Springer is tighter, best shooter,
and has that original 1911 WW 1 feel. But what do I know, I only have 6 1911s,hehehehehe

I can't disagree with your findings but I had the complete opposite experience.
While the Springfield was built a little tighter, The Ruger out performed it by enough to sell off the Springfield. The Ruger's trigger was in a different category altogether than the Springfield, and when placed on paper, groups were better out of the Ruger. The Springfield I had was a very well built 1911 and I'm not knocking it. But the Ruger edged it out in performance.

That's not to say that that will always be the case, but it was in mine.

I can't say much for the Remingtons, but I will say that with the Ruger I have been very satisfied what was delivered in that price range.
For a first run, I think Ruger knocked it out of the park.

This is really not an "either/or question" as far as I am concerned. I have both -- a Remington R1 Enhanced, and a Ruger SR1911 Commander, and I enjoy shooting each of them. They are both are well made, reliable and accurate. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I have thousands of rounds out of my Ruger. I had my first failure to feel last weekend... It was from the 10round mag I was using. I have not been disappointed one bit with this pistol. I like the CMD so much I'm going to buy a 5" model next month.
