I had that same problem a month ago. After careful consideration, I went with the Kimber Custom Target II. I decided that my first .45 had to be a 1911. The Sig P220 is an awesome gun, but I have always love the feel of a Kimber.

I dont regret my decision...I was lucky enough to have aquired a nice Sig P226 later in the same month in a trade.

Good luck with your decision. It just comes down to what you want in a .45, for me it was a target pistol.

Personally, I'd go with the Kimber. Specifically the new TLE. In fact, my dealer has one I'm lusting over right now. I may buy it, but I'm trying to stay away from it (like trying to stay away from a chocolate cake).

The SIG-220 is quality, no doubt... But it's also about one thousand (am I wrong, I could go to the site, and check, but I think I'm in the general ballpark, or am I)?

So, whatkind of 1911 could you get with about one thousand?

Well, check this out, ( http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx?item=PX1445RBH ).

It's a Para-Ordnance 1911, with a 14 x .45apc magazine! And it costs just under 950dollars, check it out from this store for example (I know I would if I lived in the states. People cherish the right you have. It aint so easy in most of the E.U.)http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx?item=PX1445RBH

Now, I think that's a good deal. Then again, if you have more money to put into it, I would get an STI 1911 (in .45apc, or .40s&w), I think you can get one of their 2011 models, from about 1800 usd...

But, I aint saying the Sig is bad... No sir! from all first time impressions (and I get many, as I rent the gun I shoot my session at the firing range, as I dont have a licence yet. And the SIG-226 gave me the best results for a first time on a particular semi-auto , well it's aalmost a tie with the 1911)... Have you considered the 1911 models that SigSauer are making? (are they 'real' 1911s, or just very close to a 'real' 1911)?

Having said that, we trained with a FN-9mm in the army, and I got to be pretty accurate with those fixed sights... All I'm saying is, the FN .40cal, might be something to look into... Still, your choises are good. A tough desicion indeed! (I havent had the pleasure of firing a SIG 220, but the Colt 1911, made in the 80s, that I shot 100 rounds of .45apc from was a pleasure! And from looking at the target, it makes very large holes)!

Oh, and just to throw an idea to the mix, have you thought of a H&K usp, in .45apc? It could be a very interesting alternative... Just a thought... ;)

And sorry If I got carried away playing the devils advocate... I guess it's just the thought of being able to submit my id, and collecting a quality gun like the ones you are thinking of... Well, that is a thought that makes my mind race with ideas! :) I think I might end up buying about five, (and that's only handguns)!!! :banghead: Sigh...
