Which pistol/rifle combo would you carry into war?

does anyone think this is getting out of control besides myself? theres 10 pages.
its like asking what car should i buy or 4cyl or 8. or what color. everyone has
a different answer. i dont think im going to war being 55 yrs old and a honorable
discharge is already on my wall. maybe the question should be"those that have
been to war , what firearms do you recommend".

If I had to carry all my own gear an M4 & Glock 17 to keep weight down.

If I had support to carry the load I would switch to a .308 platform (AR style) to add power and distance to the rifle and step up to a Glock 22 handgun.

I'd go with 3 liters of water, a plate carrier, light helmet, pvs-14s, a good knife, my walkaround aid bag, a 1911 in a chest rig with 4 mags total, and my Moisin-Nagant M44 with one hundred rounds and a comfy sling, an ACOG, and some sort of PEQ. Since I won't be alone, all the other guys can carry the heavy crap. All I really need to shoot at is what they miss, so why carry something that isn't fun?

In all honesty, I'd rather have had my Moisin in Hawijah than my M4. I really think I would have shot better when I needed it if I'd been forced by the rifle to aim.

idk about age gap making a difference but i'm 20 and would take a 1911 and M1a socom any day over my glock or my rebuilt AK.

52yo. I have been in combat and know the difference between being inserted with a M4/M16 and something a little heavier. Prefer something a little heavier is most situations.

I would say my M4 (though i would chamber it in 6.8) because it has been a reliable weapon for me, as far as throwing your weapon down a mountain can be, and you can pick your pistol cause if they are that close im probably running at that point, though I like the M11 but I would prefer a 45. I noticed there were alot of M14 guys great rifle but after hours humpin a mountain I would imagine that bad boy would get real heavy!
And before everyone flames me for prefering an AR, remember there is no golden, magic weapon that will never jam but when my M4 jams, and it has, I pop one pin, tilt the upper and pull out the bolt, easy as that, simple, in the Navy and Marine Corps we are big fans of KISS!

Vaherder,

Thanks for your service.

I was wondering if you could elaborate about your experiences with the Glock in battle? What exactly went wrong? Which branch of the military is using Glock? I thought we just used the M9 & M11.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Some units (civil affairs, special forces, etc) buy alternate sidearms or weapons. For example, our command bought a company's worth of m320 grenade launchers instead of the 203s.

I visited your profile and read many of your posts. I think that your are the biggest BS artist I have ever encountered on this site. I do not believe you have ever been in combat, and if you were ever even deployed, I am confident you never touched a glock while you were there. If anyone wants a good chuckle, visit the post history of our subject matter expert on everything here.

I would take my SIG 226 in .40 with 357 barrel, (cheater) and SIG 556, I would have my wife carry my Rem 700 in 223 and the Mossberg ;).

I would feel safe

Considering the Glock came around in the early 80s, that's a very safe bet.
I have seen a colonel from Civil Affairs walking around with a Glock in a chest rig, though, so I know they've been used in service before. He gave me his 9mm rounds to get rid of them on his way home when our platoon took them back to Warrior (my 8:00:23 AM handed out my rounds to the IPs for some reason).

Moral of the story is that trading 45 mil-spec 9mm rounds for 36 cor-bons is a great trade!

Glock 18, with M4 with ACOG. with HPs of course. dont tell me they check because i have carried my own HPs
