Which pistol/rifle combo would you carry into war?

I have seen a colonel from Civil Affairs walking around with a Glock in a chest rig, though, so I know they've been used in service before.

I can think of at least one unit that carries them as standard issue.

I'm also aware of at least a couple cases where SF teams or other SOF guys managed to acquire enough of them to equip a full team down range through official channels (checked out from the JOS warehouse or similar).

So it happens, occasionally.

Yea there are a couple of SOF that I have worked with that had glocks, though Im not at liberty to say who when or where, they are out there. some liked them, some didnt, I think in the SOF community its more on operator preference, Ive seen M9s, M11s, and 1911s also. I personally have had an M11, loved it (though I hate 9mm) and I currently am issued and M9(still 9mm, dangit)

The big push post-Big Army jumping on and crushing the last attempt to replace the M9 is for SOCOM to go to a Glock. Debate seems to center on whether it should be a 9mm or another caliber, possibly 40S&W (as used by the really cool kids among the already really cool kids). Or at least that was the debate when I got out in 2008, but I haven't heard anything from buddies who are still in about it being different these days. The ideal plan is to keep Big Army completely out of the loop on this one, so there's no jacka$$ery about manual safeties and automatically deploying reflective belts and whatever other bells and whistles people with no serious pistol training think is important on a fighting gun . . . but we'll see

I'd also have to say I'd be partial to a Wilson Combat 1911a1 .45acp and a POF 7.62 X 51 mm NATO (.308 Win) Gas piston regulated rifle... that is if money were no cost.

I'd carry an m-60 and a glock 21. But would also have to have my 8" combat knife and tamahawk. With that gear and some body armor I think I'd last long enough to be useful.

Enough

This thread really had more to do with long guns than handguns, and was thus only marginally on topic for this forum. It started out a bit like a fantasy board game and went downhill from there.

It died out and has been resuscitated a couple of times. I think pretty much everyone has had their fun.

Closed.
