So I have recently posted on here asking about a remington 700 sps tactical in 308. i really like the rifle and can get it for well under $600, not including scope and bipod which i would get. I want to get this because i am going to get into hunting this season (deer) and would like my own rifle that functions and looks cool (im sucker for tacti-cool things). but i recently got an offer from a friend for a mini 14 gb SS for $500, good deal but i already have a shotgun and .22 for plinking but that seems very tempting to me. so what should I do im 19 and in college with not that much in the bank (plenty to spare on my addiction of guns) so should I go with the deer rifle or mini 14, and how good is that deal on the mini? gotta be honest im leaning toward the rem 700

thanks and i know ill get some good advice from the good people here

He's probably selling the Mini 14 to buy his own M700 Tactical. :D Guess that serves to express my sentiments.

I would much rather go with the Rem.700!! Its gonna be a lot more accurate than the mini 14 plus the mini 14 shoots .223 where as the .308 is gonna be alot better for deer hunting!!!

I have both, love both, and shoot both. having said that... remington 700... not because it's a better gun or a better value, but because as you have already stated you have a bigger need for a deer/target gun. Mini 14's are fun, TONS of fun, but they aren't really for deer hunting. I plan to do so with mine at some point but not until the freezer's full of meat that was procured via a dedicated deer rifle.

Check your state game laws...I know in Virginia anything below .23 Caliber is not allowed for deer hunting. Mini-14 is .223 REM and notoriously inaccurate. I personally wouldn't even go deer hunting with a Mini-30.
