I am new to the longer ranged weapons and I shall be getting a Stevens 200 in .308. The question is which scope? I am trying to stay at $200 or less and would like to be able to shoot at 400-500 yards easily. Any suggestions?

That's a lot to ask from a sub $200 scope. Shooting 500-600 yds will depend mostly on you, not the scope. I think your best bet would be a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40.

Natchez has refurbished (with full warranty) Nikon scope on sale at this price, don't go with an off brand. Bought one at the gun show (AIM), an now have a $70.- scope on a .22 because it could not handle the recoil of a 30-06. AND i was duly warned on this forum, so take their advice to heart..

http://opticsthoughts.com/index.php...mparison&catid=4:rifle-scope-reviews&Itemid=4 read this for a good rundown of the sub $200 scopes. Natchez has some decent deals on refurb and closeout scopes, but you'll pay $20 shipping on your order. I bought a 6-20x50 nitrex tr1 from them. scope is HUGE, but the glass is good. eyebox is rather small.

but for a stevens, I'd look at 1 of these 2 scopes personally. simmons whitetail classic 6-20x50 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/74...mm-adjustable-objective-truplex-reticle-matte

or vortex diamondback 4-12x40. smaller scope, better eyebox. http://www.adorama.com/VORDBKM04P.h...ping Site&utm_campaign=Other&utm_source=gbase

Vortex Diamondback or Nikon Prostaff, both are very good scopes for the price. Mike

Wow thanks for the info. I ended up acquiring a Nikon prostaff for nothing out of pocket as a temporary solution till I have a better budget.
