I only shoot 9 pellet 00 buckshot or slugs with a velocity of 1325 FPS or greater.

Why so fast for HD distances?

This excuse still blows my mind!!! Over 40 years of shooting . I have never done it. Still don't understand how you can mess up fire, pull back till it stops! push forward till it stops! fire repeat as necessary
Never seen and auto shotgun I would bet my life on if a pump was available.

Have you ever been under the extreme stress of your life in danger? A lot of things different between shooting targets at a range and someone shooting at you. Someone brought a KelTec to the club and we ran a lot of ammo through it, including mini shells. EVERYONE had issues short-stroking and this was just for fun.

Since low recoil buckshot does not reliably cycle the SLP action. I have tried LE132 both 9 pellet 00 buckshot and LE132 15 pellet #1 buckshot and it is a crap shoot.

Sometime it cycles reliably and I can shoot the entire magazine some times I need to eject the spent shot shell manually. Going with 00 or slugs with a minimum of 1325FPS reliably cycles the SLP action.

Your mind is blown by the fact that a life-or-death scenario, likely in the middle of the night when someone with little experience with a pump gun is suddenly awakened to a home invader, might be hit with a panic and not full-stroke a pump gun?

As I said, I've seen it several times in the dove field and on the target range, and these people weren't "operators" but just regular people with minimal experience with a pump gun. I think it's careless to think that it wouldn't happen to a lot of regular people - aka wives, girlfriends, or others who probably don't have more than a box or two of rounds through the pump gun. I wouldn't call it an "excuse," rather wisdom.

I am not sure of the wisdom of a gun in the hands of a person you describe in a high stress situation if so a single or double would be a better choice The guns I use for home defense don't get put in that role with out 500 rds. through them

Would you consider large feral dogs seriously trying to eat me extreme stress? One killed in the air 3 ft from the muzzle then dropping another one as fast as you can work a pumpgun. Or a 1000 lb steer that had already gored 1 person coming as hard as he could run at you ? That steer sold me on brenneke slugs

I voted 1100 as they are one of the best seller no shotguns of all time with a proven record and lots of aftermarket but really any off them is fine. But like others a 870 would be my first choice or mossy 500. I have an A5 in my closet though.

Since you've decided but are willing to entertain future options, I'll add the Benelli M4 and second or third the Keltec KSG.

Which shotgun for home defense?
For HD I would buy least expensive one from the list which would most likely be the Mossberg. I see no reason to spend large amount of money on something that is going to "collect dust".
