For looks and collection purposes, I like the Russians, as the color of the stock is nice looking, and kinda different than most wood, and for collectabilty, a Russian sks is the "true, original" sks, so is a good representative example of the gun. For practicality (I.E.-If I were a soidier going in to battle, and my choice of weapon was an sks, an sks, or an sks...) I'd choose an sks-m or -d, for the higher capacity and ease or reloading (I can swap mags WAY faster than I can load with stripper clips, personally, and with a 30 rd mag, I only have to reload 1/3 as often to start with), specifically, I'd probly pick my Norinco sks-m, as the mags dont wobble, its dead nutz reliable, fast, and the stock is surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic (which I would have guessed the exact OPPOSITE the first time I saw it and went to pick it up.VERY pleasantly surprised. She's an ungly mother though....)
Luckily, I have both of these types in my collection now, so I'm happy.
Russian 1954 Izvhesk sks
Norinco SKS-m w/30rd AK mag and fugly, but comfy (and not seen too often) stock.
