Black Powder firearms cannot be shipped to California, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Michigan, Massachusettes, or anywhere outside the contiguous United States. Please check your State, City , and County laws before ordering firearms.

What's the story? TN doesn't back black powder guns, AFAIK.

i just ordered a cap and ball pistol thru Cabelas and i live in the Los Angeles area...asked them if it was a problem and they said no.

Except Hawaii and the usual eastern states, Traditions is probally letting the lawyers get in the way of sales. If there is a law prohibiting or restricting BP arms in a few METRO/URBAN areas Traditions errs on the side of caution and refuses to ship to that state.

They must be mistaken about TN. I live in eastern TN and recieved my 5.5 inch barrel 1858 Remington through UPS from Cabelas just over a month ago, and also back in September my 8in 58 came the same way. They must have their wired crossed somewhere, TN isn't an anti-BP or anti-gun state.

In NJ they are considered firearms. All black powder long arms must be purchased with your FID just like any shotgun or rifle. BP pistols can be purchased if you have your FID card and pistol purchase permit. You need a pistol permit for each pistol. Here in NJ they lump airguns, BB guns, replica guns, BP guns and modern guns are in the same category. Those of you in other states, enjoy your freedom.

BP guns are not regulated in California. Cash and carry, mail order, garage gunsmiths who sell muzzleloaders all are okay.

But some catalogs and web sites assume CA must prohibit shipping of things. Sportsman's Guide lists AR uppers and various other perfectly legal items as "can't ship to CA."

As mentioned, many sellers/people are ignorant of laws in many areas including CA. I have bought bp firearms from gunstores cash and carry in CA before. Ignorant sellers in other states just losing business. You would be surprised what is legal and illegal in many areas if one researches.

As an exaple, I believe in MI you have to get a permit to buy a bb pistol! In CA you may carry unless prohibited by some local ordinance or on the grounds of a K-12 school, ANY size folding knife carried in the folded position concealed or any type of knife of any size openly I believe. And switchblades with a balde under 2" are lagal in CA too for some reason. CA residents can't carry butterfly knives though.

As the feds and CA don't seem to care about bp guns, I wonder the legality of carrying one or having one loaded in ones car. It's not really a firearm according to them!

hmmmm. i wouldn't want to be caught with a loaded Cap and Ball revolver in my car or on my person in CA, but it's an interesting question.

i guess since it doesn't "look evil" or because the "gangstas" or "hollyweird" movies don't "evilize" them they are okay....
