Which subcompact should I purchase for carry?

A desantis pocket holster for the p3at should be less than $20. You have a good pocket pistol already, get a holster for it.

For carrying IWB, get a G19 if it works well for you (it does for many) or stick with one of your 45s.

If you want a smaller gun to carry in a holster on your belt, it's hard to beat the Glock 26. It's very reliable and as accurate as you need to be. It's not a pocket pistol for most people. I carry mine either on the belt or in an ankle holster. I don't find the magazine extensions to be necessary. They feel good, but almost everyone I know has found that they shoot the little Glocks just as well without them. The baby Glocks in .40 and .357 have plenty of recoil, but if that doesn't bother you, go for the power. I had a Glock 23 in .40 and sold it.

If the belt or ankle are not possible due to weather or clothes then I put a lightweight snubbie in my pocket in a Kramer pocket holster.

As someone else has said, the cheapest thing is to buy a good pocket holster for your P3AT, if you've found it to be reliable and can shoot it accurately. I have a P32 that I still don't really trust, though it's been 100% after I did the "fluff and buff." I had numerous failures to feed until I worked on it.

I am with Monkeybear too. The 1911 is a perfect pistol for IWB carry. Get a nice holster and watch Ol'e Slabsides disappear.

I've been surprised w/ the shootability of both the G26 & the P2000sk but I don't like subcompacts because the grips are too short. IF you can conceal it easily enough, go w/ the P2000 or the G19...IMO it's the better compromise ;)

I'm surprised by how much trouble I have shooting the P2000sk. Not sure why. Have no trouble with the 27. I personally like the Glock much better (now--used to hate them before I got one) and find that Glock accessories of all types are readily available. There isn't much out there for the Hk. I wouldn't spend my own money (and more of it) for an Hk, even though Hks are more tacticool.

The 1911 was the best gun out there.... for your great great great grandfather.

Just go to a gunshow and handle a few guns. then go to a shooting range and rent the ones you liked & felt right to you. then buy the one you liked best.

If you can find a Walther P99cA/S in 9mm to shoot, I believe that your decision will be quickly made for you.

Forgot to add earlier, my 2000sk has a stupid mag release lever. You push down on it, like towards the ground. Not fun-- better than the stupid things in the heel like PPk had-- but not fun. It's a big problem if you are use or carry any other "normal" pistol. I know H&K's are ubertacticool and all that, but the controls are goofy and the pistol slide is way too big (like twice as large as an Xd or baby Glock). Throw in very expensive mags and and a very small selection of holsters. I'd never pay twice as much as most other pistols to have this thing if I were choosing again.

Do all the Hk's have this? I have shot a USP and that squeezecocker thing years ago but I cannot remember the magazine releases on them.

An HK P2000SK. I am also a broke college student and spent part of my financial aid money on this gun. I used some of my summer earnings to fund my HK P2000.

Either way I would second a Walther P99. Or the GLock 26.

My only experience shooting a Glock was with a Glock 19 and I was more accurate with that gun the first time I shot it than I have been with any gun before or since.

THink you have your answer.

Well if You "Must" Carry a Sub-Compact

In my humble opinion, if you MUST carry a sub-compact as a back-up gun to your primary carry, I would recommend the Para-Ordnance 'Warthog' - the world's smallest .45
