If a feller was to lose his mind completely and get a hankering for an 1874 Sharps rifle in say 45/70, which one is better. I looked at C. Sharps and Shiloh Sharps. They both are sure handsome rifles. Could I get some feedback from shooters please. I don't want to shoot in any competition or club stuff. Just always wanted one, but they were always too spendy for me. They still are, but I can't let that stop me forever. Or should I get an 1886 Winchester?

I prefer the Shiloh , because the stock demensions fit me better, and the customer service from Shiloh is just spectacular.
Shiloh's are easy to buy, just call them place your order and the 250$ deposit, then start saving money, in about a year you'll get the letter that your rifle is coming up to production and you then send in any balance that you haven't already sent them... Then the long wait starts. Or you can check occasionally to see what they have on the rack ready to ship, or go thru Bill Goodman , it cost's an extra 200$ but you'll get your rifle in just a few months.

C Sharps are well built, can be delivered in 90 days or less if you order, they do have a fairly extensive available list.

Which ever one you go with , keep the barrel length under 32 inches.

Went through this myself several months ago. Done a lot of research, attended a few BPCR shoots and learned I wanted to go with the Shiloh Sharps. I was ready to oder one from Shiloh, they have some listed already to go when I ran across an add in the local area for one for sale. New unfired in 45-120. Wanted a 45-70, but for the price listed, I decided to give this one a chance.

The Shiloh and C Sharps rifles are the top of the line. If I was younger and not retired I'd love to have one. But I am very happy to own and shoot the Pedersoli that I got a couple a three years ago. It is accurate and the fit and finish is good.
Plus, when I carry it out back to my deer blind I won't cry if it gets a hunting scratch...

Thought about doing this (new barrel), but since I already have two other rifles in 45-70, I thought I'd give this caliber a try. I probably won't shoot it much.

If you don't want to shoot any competitions and just want a shooter, I'd have to recommend the Pedersoli. It's not as nice as a Shilo or C. Sharps but they are still very, very nice rifles. You can't beat them for the price, now if your entertaining the idea of competive shooting, yeah spend the extra $1,000......ish.

My 2¢, worth exactly what you paid for it. :scrutiny:

I own two Shiloh's, but would probably have to recommend the C. Sharps. They both make quality rifles, but I think C. Sharps has a better mind set as far as customer service. Maybe Shiloh is just too busy to care, but going through the showroom at C. Sharps I found them to be friendly people to deal with.

A base model Shiloh or C Sharps is only about $300 more than a Pedersoli these days.

The C. Sharps 1875 is the BPCR Secret Weapon. For $1425 stripped, it is less than anything remotely comparable. It does not have the history of the 1874 or the style of the 1877 but it is as good a shooter as any.

Me?
I would get the C Sharps 1885 Winchester repro.
What I shoot is a Browning BPCR "Highwall."

According to Cimmarron and Buffalo Arms listed prices, the Shiloh or C Sharps will come in cheaper or the same as a Pedersoli..... Been a very long time since Pedersoli was actually cheaper..

It'll take closer to 750$ to rebarrel if having Shiloh do it (which is advisable as it will retain full warranty), but as you have shorter cased chambers , that same 750 will buy a bunch of Norma and Jamison brass, and powder.

The last one I bought was in 2008, it was $1,150 chambered in 50-90 with a 34" barrel and Pedersoli long range sights.

Haven't really checked prices since then, going to Gun Broker and glancing it looks like the selling prices are still a good bit lower.

Off of Buffalo Arms and Shiloh's web sites this morning.
The Pedersoli long range 2432, Shiloh's LRE 2018
Pedersoli Sharps sporting 1981 (for 45-70, 25-120 couple hundred higher) and the Shiloh Hartford 2145.
