Who has chosen the Ruger Sp101 as their carry gun? it is kinda heavy for five shots but a Great sidearm anyway. How do you carry IWB/OWB just stuff it in your pocket? also, what ammo do you use for carry ammo and range ammo?

I carry one near daily in a leather pancake. It is very comfortable. I use my handloads for both practice and carry.

I carry either my SP101 or my G29,
For Me, the best holster I've found is the sourdough made by simply ruggard holsters..
I carry IWB @ 3 O'Clock....
and for Ammo it's 125grain Underwood.. in fact since I discovered underwood it is about all I buy, their 10mm and 9x25 is Amazing. And for what its worth I feel just as good carrying 38 +p in my ruger, The two inch barrel is not doing 357 full justice anyway

I used to carry the 3" version, and I love the pistol, but it was still a little heavier and bulkier than I'd like. I don't carry everyday/everywhere, so I like to pocket carry, but the SP101 pretty much needs a belt holster, which limited the shirts I could wear. Kind of a headache, all around.
I ended up stumbling into a great deal on a S&W 642, now carried in a pocket holster ( as per Georgia law) and I'm happy. I can carry it wearing any old t-shirt, and a pair of elastic-banded gym shorts if I want, with no issues.

Been one of two carry guns for me for a loooong time. Carried in a Mitch Rosen "Workman" and one of Mitch Rosen's belt, it is nearly unnoticed. Federal Hi-Shoks are inside.

Use a GOOD belt and holster and weight becomes pretty non-issue. Have carried a Ruger SBH without having any weight related issues.

My first carry gun was an SP101 DAO with a 2 1/4" barrel. I got away from it for years, trying different semi-autos of all variations. After a long hiatus I found myself just this week back on a revolver kick and carrying the little SP once again. It's honestly the most comfortable gun to carry that I own. I have a Milt Sparks Versa Max II that it rides in, with the original square rubber grip. I don't feel like it's heavy at all. It's what, like 24-25 oz? That's only a few oz more than a compact Glock that frequently has it's light weight praised as one of it's true benefits. Much lighter than my 41+ oz 1911. I really forget I'm wearing it. I agree with the suggestion of a good belt, that's a must for any belt gun. I use full house .357s in mine, and that's where this gun really shines. Not too light for the round in which it's chambered, not too heavy for carry.

My SP101 2.25 inch DAO is my only carry gun at this time and it is enough. I have a Simply Rugged pancake and pocket carry holster that is changed depending on my pants and where I am going. Pocket carry at church for instance with shirt and tie. Pancake when wearing my jeans which precludes pocket carry. Great gun and not at all too heavy to pocket carry at all.

2.25 DAO CT grips with Trijicon front sight, appendix carry.

125grn Barnes XPB's (handloads) for carry

The father-in-law has a SP101 in 357. I personally love it. I don't find it heavy at all. Of course I am a bigbore kinda guy. It feels balanced and you forget its there. His is DAO and hard to find around here. There was a 38sp with hammer for $500 at a LGS =/ I want one.

It's slim through the cylinder and I found that it carried quite well IWB. I had the 2.3" barrel and it was a good OWB, but hard to get away with OWB in south Texas, so I carried it IWB. It's certainly not a pocket revolver, too heavy. I put a Hogue grip on mine, much better with heavy loads and the round butt profile is quite good for concealment.

OWB holster, for the money, I really like Don Hume's JIT slide. I have one to fit my 6 shot medium frame guns. I occasionally carry a 3" Taurus 66 in one. Same holster fits my 4" Taurus 66 and my 4" S&W M10 HB. I need to get one for my 5 shooters, but I normally pocket carry my 2" and don't carry the 3" at all much. They're both .38s.

I carry mine in my back pocket when I go for walks with my wife. I'll take a chunk of Pittsburgh steel over these new pot-metal, aluminum, plastic guns any-day! I've shot these new contraptions with full powered 357 loads and I'll tell you... no thanks!!!!!!!!

I like a bit of heft in a carry gun; the SP101 is about perfect in weight for its size envelope. Around the house, I pocket carry in a Kramer pcket holster. When out and about, if an SP101 is to be the "primary" weapon, I like the Milt Sparks PMK, on the belt, a truly great revolver holster. I will probably have more to say later, when I have more time; must get dressed for work.

I used to...sold it...in the market for another. I had a 2 1/2" with hammer...GREAT GUN! Traded it to a buddy whose wife didn't like shooting her LCR and he thought she would do better with the heavier SP101. He literally saved my life in Afghanistan, so I kind of owed him a favor. That is the only reason I don't regret the decision. I am now looking for the ever elusive 3 1/16" Sp101. I think that is the hardest of all of the non-limited prodction ones to find. I may have to settle on a 3" SW M60 as my "B" choice. I don't remember what holster I used for it, but it carried nice and tight OWB and very high, almost up in my ribs. It had enough heft that I could shoot almost anything but the most powerful .357mag loads with good control. My usual carry load was Speer Gold Dot 125g .38SPL Shortbarrel load; my main reason being that it produces virtually no flash in the 2 1/2" barrel, which is a very good quality in a CCW pistol that statistically, will more likely be used at night than not.
