Who Do You Love?

I know it is wrong. I know I should not. But I am in love. I am in love with my rifles. I have shotguns, I have handguns, and have a fondness for them, but I love my rifles.

I give them girl's names. I fondle them. I even sleep with my AR-15, named Charlene (safety on of course). I have a Deluxe Sporter Ruger 10/22, called Beauty, with a walnut stock so beautiful that I can't get my self to shoot her. I have seen A-Bolts that make me weep because I can't possess them. I just bought a Winchester 94. She stole my heart the other day, and I hust had to have her. Her name is Wendy by the way.

Fellow THR brothers and sisters, are there guns you have fallen in love with?

Who do you love?
 
I love my wife, first and foremost, my dogs and my cat, my parents and siblings, grandparents, and on and on. I LIKE my stuff. Guns, tools in the garage, car, etc., etc. Just tools to get through life.

I gotta go with GT's sentiment. Guns are tools, not bedmates.

Here's a paranoid thought for you. Do you really think posting "I named my AR-15 Charlene and sleep with her" is a good idea? The stuff you post here could live forever. You might see it printed out some day and presented at a court hearing where your actions are in question regarding a self defense shooting.

Or a competancy hearing. :uhoh:
 
This explains the underlying hatred of some women towards firearms - jealously towards any competition.

You are correct about your perception. Not just guns either. At least, that has been my experience as well.
 
I don't think of my guns as objects of affection. Instead, I think of them as repositories of sentiment & memories. My K-38 & SMLE remind me of the grandfather who left them to me. My 1911 reminds me of the fun of IPSC shooting w/ my friends. My .22's remind me of the fun my family & I have plinking.

Guns are just inanimate objects. It's what you do w/ them that makes them special...:D
 
I agree with seeker_two. Just yesterday, I picked up an NEF 12 gauge single shot*...why? I grew up hunting with a single barrel shotgun and it reminded me of all the times that my dad, brother, and I went out into the field. Just the look and feel of the gun makes memories come flooding back...not a bad deal for $95 out the door.



*This is a sure sign that I have extreme cabin fever :)

No, not about the sleeping with an AR near. I mean about having a 10/22 so tricked-out that you won't shoot it. I can see not shootign a collectible...but not shooting a 10/22? That's just sick.

I was trying to be humorous, although I really do name some of my guns with girl's names and some of them, I have true affection for. It's a long story.

Like you when I used to get on TFL or now, THR, and I think jeez "lighten up people!"

Humor . . . a difficult concept for some.

Remember the Wild Romanian on TFL? Wonder what ever happened to him? He used to post these outrageously dry wit stories that people would take seriously, and, the insuing thread would get crazy!

Daniel Flory, I still have the Eastern Arms Co. 94 A break action 12 GA that I grew up with. It had been my Dad's and he gave it to me.

I love that shotgun for the memories of many a good time.

my vaqueros, thems my babys, i could never part with them, got em new and they've been shot till the action is sooo smooth and fast, they just feel like old friends, like a good pair of gloves. no name for em, but my significant other is definatly jelous of that one look in my eyes when these prettys are out. sentiment would be my father's 1911, which i just treasure for the memories
 
Hey Brad, be careful. The last rifle named Charlene I've heard of was an M-14.

Gunnery Sgt. Hartmann and pvt. "Gomer Pyle" didn't fare too well when they came in contact with her. And Pyle "loved" her too.;)

You are the first to make that connection. I have mentioned Charlene a whole bunch of times, but nobody tied them to Leonard till now.

Actually I named her after my aunt. Her husband, my uncle, was a navigator on a B-52 during the late 50's and early 60's. Saw Vietnam action. Lost a lot of buddies. Sadly, after retiring, he became an alcoholic and died because of it. I could equate because I too had trouble with the bottle after my wife died, but I have it under control, most of the time anyway.

So Charlene, besides being a great torch name, is in memory of her. She died just a few years ago. But the movie "Full Metal Jacket" did somehow trigger that memory. Great movie by the way!
 
Men have named guns after women for ages. Remember Davy Crockett's Old Betsy (Kentucky rifle)?

Nonetheless, I admit to having a couple of S&W revolvers named Horace and Dan, after Smith & Wesson's founders.

I guess what I need is a South African "Beretta" like their Z88 (Local version of the M92) or an R4 Galil. I could name it Charlize, after that foxy Theron blonde babe. I read somewhere that after she hit it big in the movies, nearly 30% of girl babies in South Africa were being named Charlize for awhile...

You know, I have a Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger. I guess I could name it Veronica, after the babe on, "The Lost World" who carries a F-S in her boot in the last couple of seasons' shows... :)

Guns might as well be made by Craftsman and Snap-on, so far as I'm concerned.

Having said that, I will admit an emotional attachment to a Ruger MkII .22LR that my dad gave me when I was 12.
 
At least if craftsman made guns all you would have to do is run into town and trade the broken ones in, no questions asked, unlike the runaround a certain gun company *cough* ruger*choke* make you do.
 
My family comes first and then other folks. My firearms are right behind. I am forever taking a silicone cloth to them. I clean them after I shoot them. I dote on them whenever I have a spare moment. Yes, I am sick! I do not want to be cured of my love for firearms. In 2 weeks I'll be oicking up a Bushmaster A3. I go to gun shows and I want to take as many guns home with me as possible. I go to shops and drool!

Yeah, I guess I really do live my guns a whole lot! :D
