Love it even though it hurts?

I enjoy short-barrelled magnum revolvers, but will freely admit that my Model 57 and Model 629 are MagNaPorted, and that I have no real desire to acquire or play with any of the on-beyond-Dirty-Harry cartridges that have come out since the .454 Casull's debut. I like wrasslin' with a wheelgun, maybe even getting shoved around a bit, but getting beaten senseless is another thing altogether. Besides, if you can't kill it with a .44 Magnum, you probably shouldn't risk annoying it with pistol fire in the first place... :D

Shoulder-fired weaponry? Probably the narstiest thing I own is a Steyr-Mannlicher carbine in 8x56R; short barrel + weighs nothing + steel buttplate = ouch. Compared to it, my M44 is a joy to shoot. The hardest-kicking firearm I've shot probably remains a Ruger No.1 Tropical in .416 Rigby with maximum boogie handloads. I was pretty much done for the day halfway through the first shot.

I used to be a recoil junky. Loved shooting my 50 bmg! The WOW factor on that was outstanding. When that thing roared to life, the recoil would push you back a good 12 plus inches. You definitely had to brace yourself for that one.

That is until one fated late summer day when I was shooting 3 inch magnum slugs out of my Home Defense Mossberg 500A. I felt something wierd in my shoulder. Instead of stopping I shot my friends 270 and the pain in my shoulder was unimaginable. Well a lot of pain, bruising and doctor visits later I had an torn upper bicep muscle and a chipped bone. It took 3 months to heal. Now a days, I still love shooting that 50 cal, but I do it with as much padding as I can stuff between me and the rifle.
