After a long while of mostly shooting 22LR though it, I've been really getting into shooting .22 Mag in my Single Six. Boy, it's a lot of fun. It's got little recoil but a big bang.

It's a real shame that they don't have too many 22mag autoloaders out there. I'll bet that something like a MK II or Buckmark in 22Mag would just be loads of fun.

I owned my Single Six for months before trying .22 Mag. I had never shot a .22Mag anything before and figured that it simply wasn't worth the cost for only 50 rounds of itty bitty .22.

So one day I figured what the heck bought a box and fired that first round and it scared the bejuzzus out of me. I couldn't believe the report of the tiny little round. I know love shooting .22 mag and after doing a bit of research I found that ballistically .22 Mag, especially from a rifle is no joke.

So now I still have my Single Six and a wonderful Marlin 882SS in .22Mag.

Two big thumbs up.

Yea, it was the same way with me too. It's pretty cool actually. It's almost like I just got a whole new gun. :)

All I ever shoot out of my Single Six in 22 Mag. I find the accuracy is better with them than with .22 LR. For .22 LR in a revolver I have an old H&R 922 and for 22 short and long I use a 60 year old H&R Trapper. The .22 Mag is a great round in a rifle as well. I get great goups with my 10/22M.

Bloodiest rifle I've ever owned was a Marlin 22 mag heavy barrel... Love the round... I'd LOVE to get a 452 in 22 mag.

For handguns, only 22 mag pistol that comes to mind is the automag and it's... uh.... not really what I'm looking for. I have an older Single Six that only has the mag cylinder... Great gun...

Love it ! I now use around the homestead/40 acre ranch a Colt MkIII 4" in .22mag. to kill all kinda critters. The Federal 50 grain SP has good penetration on stuff under 100 pounds . The Winchester Dyna point is mellow and expands to .35 or so. The Win 40grain HP does 1400fps in my gun and fragments up close. Forget the ultra light blow up loads-I have a .17 Ruger Hunter for that use. `In short I get 300-400fps over .22lr loads kinda like a .357-.38spl spread.:D

It's like a .22lr on steriods. What a blast. :D
For years I hunted with a Marlin M781 that I bought back in the late 70's. The little round has amazing killing power for it's size. For small game hunting with a handgun it moves you close to the power of a centerfire.

My first handgun was an OM Single Six, it came from the factory as a .22 magnum only. It belonged to my brother-in-law, who gave it to me when he was stationed to Germany.

First time I took it out was in the late 60's, in Boulder Creek, California. We were in a grove of redwood trees, pretty thickly wooded. Gloomy and slightly damp, if you know the redwoods, you know what I mean.

First shot a sheet of flame about a foot long ripped out the barrel:eek: , and the crack was awesome. Hey, I was completely sold! Still am for that matter, I have four Single Sixes now and a Ruger 10/22 Magnum!

Lubs de magnum, I do!

I was really impressed by the report of 22mag out of a pistol, really low recoil but impressive flash and bang.

My father had some POS Grendel (i think) 22mag autoloader that came with 30round magazines. Touching off thirty rounds of 22mag at an inddor range out of that 3.5inch barrell as fast as you could pull the trigger was an experience, turned a lot of heads too.

My Ruger Single Six witha 6 1/2" barrel was my first handgun 28 years ago and I still like the .22 mag cylinder over the LR. Although I find that the .22LR is a bit more accureate, the mag rounds are much more fun. CCI mag ammo seems to have much more of a muzzle blast than Winchester ammo but I don't think there is much difference in velocity.

Just wish that .22 mag was cheaper!!

I don't care for shooting .22 Mags out of a revolver. I've had several convertable sa revolvers. The first a beautiful little Colt New Frontier .22.

No body, and I mean no body cautioned me about the severe muzzel blast that round produces from a hand gun. After 6 rounds I was deaf. Litterally deaf. I ended up with a vicious screaming headache that made me ill. Eventually the deafness left and at the tender age of 21 I had a full blown case of nerve damage caused tinitus.
This was in the early mid 70's. There just wasn't the emphasis on ear protection then as there is now.

That was the beginning of my hearing damage. Next I tried ear plugs. Sonic Earvalv types. Didn't help much. Eventually I found out about ear muffs.
But the damage was done.

As far as accuracy I've never tried to wring the most out the mag round. Because, I found the archaic old .22 WRF round. Same case as the mag, just a bit shorter, uses a lead bullet the same diameter as the mag, but is much more accurate in every revolver I've used it in.

CCI is the only maker now, and their stuff is toned down a wee bit. But it is still more accurate in my current OM Super Single Six than any of the magnum rounds.

My vote is "hate it"- too much bang for the buck.
Now, that's a phrase you don't hear all the time... LOL
I think it might onl apply to a $5,000 Lexus and the 22 Magnum... :p

I love my Single-Six convertible. But what I would like to from Ruger is a .22mag auto pistol using the 10/22 receiver and styles like a Broomhandle Mauser. I think that would be the perfect blend of form and function.
