My main carry is the Rossi 720 inn 44 Special. I load my own, and shoot it a lot. As for my defensive round, I carry Blazer Gold Dots in 200 grain. I believe that if I do my part, the weapon will do its part as will the bullets I am using.
Anyone out there toat the big "44" for ccw?

Don't carry one right now, but I've had a S&W 696 in the rotation, with WW Silvertips.

I had a Rossi 720 years ago, probably the best gun they ever produced. I carry this a Mag-na-port custom Charter Arms Bulldog "BackPacker" from time to time. They made 250 of them back in the late '70s, mine is #128.

We just had some threads on large-bore snubbies, and yes - the .44 Special was well represented. ;)

Anyway, when I'm not carrying in a side pant’s pocket, I'm fond of my Taurus 445 (Slightly larger then S&W K-frame size, 5-shot/.44 Special, 2" barrel, blued high-carbon steel with no porting).

I don't worry about high performance ammunition, simply because the primary cavity made by the bullet and bullet placement is what counts. Others can choose whatever they want.

I do sometimes with a Rossi M720 as well, and I find that it shoots heavy bullets better. It likes 240 grain or heavier.

If the .44 special was good enough for Jelly Bryce then who am I to argue against it? I like the round, but the only gun i have chambered in it is too nice to risk having to fork it over to the police in the very unlikely event that i had to actually use it. Id feel a lot better about losing a Glock than a Nice S&W 44 Spcl.

I carried a .44 Spl for a few years. Finnally gave it up though as the ammo got hard to find and became expensive. I still have my share of Spl revolvers but don't use them as CCW.

Love the round and have a custom Colt Bisley in that caliber. I have carried it, but it's a little on the large and heavy size. It is definitely a dedicated carry. Most days I grab something smaller and easier to conceal.

I have three 44 Spl's that I occasionally carry, a S&W 696-0, a first gen Charter Bulldog with a bobbed hammer and a Taurus 445UL. All excellent revolvers. I also have a S&W 629-0 44 Mag but that monster is too big to practically carry on a daily basis so the 629 is strictly my hunting 44. I carry the Speer 200 gr Gold Dots in all my SD 44 Spl's. However in the Mag I carry the Win 210gr Silvertip HP. Shot one deer with that load and it dropped as if hit be the hammer of Thor. :D

The 44 Special is one of my favorites in either a six gun chambered to 44 Special or in a short barreled 44 magnum. The extra weight of the magnum aids in rapid fire. I like the specials in the magnums well enough that I only load my 44 magnums on those occasions when I expect to need either the range or the power they offer.

I have a "K" frame S&W (M-19) in 44 spl., i pretty much don't carry it at all anymore...

For hunting i carry a M-29 and for SD i find myself carrying a .357 mag. more...

I like my Charter SS 44 Bulldog. Its a newer one and so far it has been a solid performer. I have on occasion carried my Ruger Sheriffs Model 3-3/8th 44 spl when I work at my buddies gun shop with the Charter as backup.

I'm down to just the Rossi 720 and an older Charter Arms Bulldog fir my 44 special collection. Used to carry both back in the day, now mostly poly 45 auto's.
