I'm thinking of a non-striker-fired DAO .45 to go with my DAO 9s (S&W 3953 and 6946, Sig 250) and DAO .40s (Smith 4046 and Sig 250) and I'm wondering who besides Sig and Smith & Wesson makes 'em.
I'm pretty partial to S&W and the Sig has about the smoothest DAO trigger I've ever shot.
But, I don't mind considering other manufactures...but a bit of googling hasn't helped too much; so I thought I'd ask here.

Suggestions?

The Beretta PX4 is available in DAO, and is also available in .45 Auto, so theoretically, there would be a PX4 Type D in .45 Auto. However, I've never personally seen a PX4 D in .45 Auto. The most common configuration is type "F" DA/SA. The type "D" models (the DAO) versions are pretty rare, and the .45 Auto versions in any trigger configuration are also not common.

The PX4 is also available in a Type "C" (don't confuse it with the Compact) "Constant" action, that isn't DAO, but more like a striker fired gun, but with a hammer.

I'm not aware of anything currently in production. I've seen a S&W or 2 over the years. You may have to shop around for something used.

Beretta PX4, HK USP/HK45 LEM, Sig 220 DAK (I assume it’s around somewhere) would be all I can think of these days.

It's possible that Grand Power makes a DAO version of its P45. The decocker version of the K100 can shoot DAO all the time with the decocker in the down position.

One option I would consider is to convert an existent DA/SA pistol to a DAO pistol. I think for example that converting a SIG-Sauer P series is quite easy by simply removing the cock notch from the hammer by filing it and removing the decocker. I think the same thing can be done with other DA/SA pistols but it would be better to consult a gunsmith first to get a more precise opinion. In any case, I think you should choose a pistol equipped with a firing pin safety to try convert it.

Hey, Beretta made the Cougar for a few years, and they are still made by their subsidiary Stoeger, so I wouldn't say those DAO guns were DOA. That's just not fair.;)

Stoeger must not call them Cougars anymore so will have to sift though all their pistols to figure which are the old Cougars

Also, I wonder if they are metal or plastic under Stoeger.
They are only listing a very generic looking Turkish Glock clone now, nothing related to the old Cougar.
The Cougar kinda morphed into the PX4 in Berettas lineup, using the same rotating barrel setup- though, strangely the subcompact reverts to a conventional shelf-locking system.

Boberg XR45-S was DAO. I saw it at a gun show once, it definitely existed.

You can also buy double action revolvers in .45 ACP. I used to have a Charter Arms Pitbull, which I even loaded from 1911 magazines, because it was a clipless type. I carried it in a shoulder rig with magazine pouches. Always a conversation starter!

Some of them are quite nice, for example Ruger Redhawk in .45 ACP was quite luxurious looking and had decent sights.

Some traditional DA/SA hammer fired pistols can be made DAO with the removal of a few parts.
