Who makes good AR mags?

I just purchased an AR (see my other thread) and now I'm looking at mags for it. I have a few assorted ones that came with it, but I'd like to buy 5-10 good quality mags for it. Which leaves me with my question.

Who are the quality AR magazine manufacturers? I think the good ones are the ones that are "USGI 30 rounders, with the green followers." But then I see adds for British ones, Colt, Thermomold, Oaky Industries (are these the good ones?), FN, Sanchez, Bushmaster, and so on. Are the USGI ones made by one or more of those companies? Or is that a special designation? What should I buy?

Labelle, and now the company that bought their machines.

Brownells, Bushmaster, LMT, Larsen... They all use the same mags with different floor plates.

In addition to USGI, the U.S made Thermolds and British steel mags (30 rd)work well.

That would be D&H. That's what all of my mags are, and they all now have Magpul followers. Any of the USGI mags are a good choice (OKAY, D&H, Labelle, Adventure Line, etc.)

Just buy the Brownells and forget replacing the followers, these magazines are as good as any USGI I have ever used and in a lot of cases they are even better and at the same price or maybe a little more.

I am speaking about the 30 round magazines, I have no experience with their 20 round magazines.

I can vouch for the 20 rounders. I just got done breaking in a RR National Match upper, and I used a few of those Brownell's 20-round magazines to do it. No function issues at all, even with 77gr BTHP Sierras seated to max OAL. I am going to buy a bunch of them to use for highpower.

The ones I like the best are US government surplus with names like COLT, OKAY, SIMMONS, and, I kid you not, ADVENTURELINE. YMMV

Brownells mags are not USGI.

You are correct, they are not USGI contractor made magazines. They do, however, function as well or better than any mag I ever was issued in the Marine Corps. They are $12.50 brand new (with dealer discount so get that C&R FFL) at Brownell's, and Brownell's has a great reputation for accepting returns on any merchandise that you are not satisfied with.

All of my mags that work are Thermolds. The only current one that I have a problem with is USGI. I shoot a lot, newest mag is the Thermold 30-45. Its iffy with 45 rounds but fine with 43. I use BM lowers.
