Where's Smith & Wesson, is this a political comment or something? The S&W 3913 is a terrific single stack 9.

tie: Glock 17 and Browning Hi-Power
These two will be what's pictured in firearm history books 100 years from now.
Other makes and models may get mentioned, but the G17 and the BHP pretty much define what a 9mm pistol is.

You have several of my favorites there:

BHP
CZ75
HKP7
and the Beretta, which I carry on a regular basis

Wow, now that is interesting...

Sig took the first spot - but Sig has at least two top of the line 9mm guns that everybody likes, namely P-226 and P-210 - so that's gives the Sig an edge... I did not anticipate that.

CZ and Browning are tie for the second place - that I expected to some degree. Of course we are talking about the two models - BHP and CZ-75.

Glock is behind CZ and BHP. I suspect this is because nobody mentioned this thread on some Glock forum. Otherwise Glock would get 50 new votes in 30 minutes... After all GLock has 9mm for every occasion, and pretty good ones as well. They seem to be less popular on this particular forum.

H&K behind Glock - which is kind of strange... H&K has USP and, more importantly, P7 that everybody seems to like.

Everybody else is falling behind. I am surprised that Beretta did not get a lot of votes. I really like Beretta 92FS. Wait untill those guys from Beretta forum come here :D

CZ For me

For me personally the CZ is the best 9 out there. It fits my hand perfectly, it is accurate, it is reliable, and I think it looks pretty cool too. Another aspect with the CZ is that you are getting more gun than what you are paying for. Not that the other pistols aren't worth there cost or worth more, just to me I feel like I am getting a better deal with the CZ.

Hey moderators!!!

Can moderator edit the poll and change the Vis wz35 to Smith & Wesson?

And maybe we can change Steyr to Springfield? I mean nobody votes for Steyr anyway, but there are some folks who love the XDs, I just forgot about those...

If I may be so bold as to suggest why your observation rings true, it is generally recognized here that there are three kinds of Glock owners/users.

1) People to be respected because they know the merits and weaknesses of many particular service autos, including the flaws in their own Austrian gem, and who picked a Glock for very solid reasons.

2) Folks, such as in many PDs nationwide, who are forced to use one, many of whom would not choose one as a personal weapon.

3) Fanboyz who don't know jack about anything. You know them as the "Glocks rulz" crowd. Around here they get run off to their self-congratulatory forums pretty quick where they can append a Tommy Lee Jones quote as their signature and not get laughed at for using a silly line from a bad movie spoken by an anti-actor who is a personal friend of Al Gore.

Lest anyone get me wrong. Glocks are great pistols--just not for me. One of the happy side effects of their grip being all wrong for me is that I don't have to suffer the highest fool to rational person discrepancy in all of the circles of gun ownership.:D

I would have to say Luger even though I know you don't want to hear it. Nothing else comes close. :)

Radom VIS - I'm still looking for one with Polish markings - one of the VERY few designs John Browning followed rather than led.

You can ask for lots of virtues from the "best" 9mm -

but on the downside, anything that kabooms with Hirtenberger 9mm CAN'T be the "best" 9mm!

Which leaves the Radom and the CZ75, and what else?

9x19mm is the most reliable pistol caliber I've encountered. I never had a failure to fire with any pistol in that caliber that I've owned, and they are:

Beretta 92FS (my first and favorite, I will never sell it)
Sig 228
Sig 239
Glock 17
Glock 26

I may buy a Glock 17 again someday just for kicks and giggles, otherwise my Beretta 92FS makes me very happy.

My daily carry pistol is actually a .40 cal Beretta Cougar (for summertime carry), but I can't help wondering how much easier to shoot the Cougar would be in 9mm...

Make mine a Beretta. Hey, mine is a Beretta, 92F made in Italy. Got it back in '86 when they first hit the market.

It's been shot a whole lot, always reliable, very accurate.

I've shot some of these other makes and they're all good.

I went with Walther as I own a full sized P88. I have heard the Sig P210 does amazing things at 100 yards but I have never fired one. My third choice is a sleeper. It is the Browning BDM; mine is very close to my P88 in accuracy. Regards, Richard:D

I own more S&W autos than all of my other guns combined and if this was a thread about the best COMPACT 9mm, I'd have to vote for the S&W 3913 as I own three of them but since the question is about which is the best 9mm period; I have to vote for the Beretta 92FS (in Inox, of course ;) ).

I really like my P99, but have to say Hi Power, it's just a fine design, well.. they both are.
