Who makes the worst 1911?

I've owned several 1911s and shot many more that were owned by others. The ONLY one that has never failed me is my Para Limited P14-45. It's a keeper.

If I were to put money down on a new mainstream one other than Para, it would be on a Colt. Period. For more money, a Valtro.

I had an early 1990's Auto Ordnance 10mm which was a colossal POS--or it was a fairly decent Llama, I can't decide which. :D

Opinions on this thread have been all over the map. Makes me wonder if I should risk my money on any pistol ever again.

Tamara, I can't provide you with pictures (unless I can get my buddy down in AR to send them) of an AMT Hardballer that not only worked, but has one of the best factory triggers I've ever felt, and is accurate as any pistol I've seen. (In his hands, not mine, of course).

This same buddy just bought a Llama :what: and had a local 'smith who works on the cheap tweak it for him. Well, he's got another inexpensive tack-driver.

On the flip side, I've seen a couple of guys send their vintage Colts to Ed Brown for hand-fitted barrels and all the other tweaks. And these guys are proud of their 18" groups off of sandbag rests.

The issues are accuracy and reliability. My three Kimbers are more accurate than I'll ever be. One of the three needed some major attention from a local gunsmith (mostly because I dropped it), another needed a break-in period, and the third so far has needed nothing.

While I've shot other 1911 brands, I've only owned Kimbers, so please take my comments in the proper context.

My dad has a Kimber Custom II. One day he went to take it to the range and the safety had sheared off sometime before without his noticing. I didn't realize it was widespread problem. On the other hand, it is a very accurate pistol.

I've got a shooting buddy that bought a NIB Firestorm from a guy who was trying to trade it in for something that his wife fit better. The grip apparently was too big for her. Anyway, a 10 day waiting period later, the first trip to the range, first mag ready & it went full auto on him :what: I'd rate that as pretty poor QC and as such rates high on my list as POS
