Who shoots Competition with what they would carry whether Personal or Duty?
What gun, what Competition(IDPA, IPSC, USPSA & etc) and class it falls into?

I don't shoot competitions (yet), but if I did I'd use what I carry. Isn't the idea of those competitions listed to make you a better shooter who is prepared for a real-life situation? (just like the first line in your signature)

These days my usual carry is a J-frame in .38 and/or .357.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

I have shot both IDPA and USPSA with carry guns. IDPA in SSP with a G26, USPSA in Limited 10 (now SS) with a single stack.

I shoot IPSC with a Taurus 66 (357 magnum, 6" barrel). Not the best for that but it works. If I could carry I'd probably carry a snub nose 357 mag (using 38 sp +P ammunition). Not much for semi-autos myself.

I might also consider a 44 special or 45ACP revolver too.

I shot my first IDPA match alst Sunday using my everyday carry CCW - a Colt Commercial 1911. I used my EDC carry rig, a Milt Sparks VMII, belt ad mag holder. I also wore a T-shirt as my primary cover just like I do everytime I carry. Most of the people there used Vests, jackets or unbutton shirts as cover.

So Yes, I do compete with my personal firearm.

I shot IDPA for 4 years with my Glock 19 carry gun and a tshirt for a cover garment; I only changed to a Glock 34 and a vest in the past year. I still shoot the G19 at matches occasionally. I've got an IWB holster that will fit both guns so I suppose I could CCW the G34 if I wanted to.

Yes. As for IDPA, that is exactly the purpose. I guess that IPSC was like that for a while. I personally consider even IPSC to more 'honest to life' by using only service/personal defense only guns.

I have, but don’t much anymore except when a BUG match comes around.

I shoot all 5 divisions of IDPA but mostly shoot SSR with a S&W 686 (heavy). I carry a S&W 386PD which is basically a lightweight 7 shot snubby version of a 686.
Shooting all matches with the 386 would probably beat the gun up pretty quick since it's not really made for that volume of shooting. I have used it in a BUG match recently though and it performed well.

I used to shoot a lot of SSR with a S&W 66, which I carried only occasionally. My typical carry was a 340PD, and the double-action revolver training was helpful, though reloading with those neat-o Safariland Comp III's was not a real-world skill.

I'm now training as a Reserve Deputy in a Sheriff's Office which leans towards .40 Glocks; mine is a 35, and I will start shooting it from duty gear in SSP just as soon as I get a few weekends when I'm not being Tasered, pepper sprayed, or generally having the crap beat out of me.
