Who's hand fits the finger grooves on Glocks?

I would like to love Glocks because of their reputation, but everytime I pick one up, the finger grooves don't line up with my fingers. Everything is thrown off by the top groove. For my hand, it is too close to the trigger guard. My hands are slightly larger than average, but by no means giant. I know there are Glock owners with larger hands. Am I alone in being annoyed with the Glock finger grooves?

The different models have different grips, so if one doesn't work out for you - don't assume that none of them will. The Glock 19 finger groove spacing fits my hands perfectly - as does the G26 and G30. Those are my prefered models.

The full sized grips, G17/34/22/35 etc, have more space between the finger grooves.

The compact sized grips, G19/23 etc, have less space between the finger grooves.

The subcompact sized grips, G26/27 etc, have further slight differences. (if you take a very close look at the details of the frontstrap texturing)

That is just in the 9/40/357 Glocks. The .45/10mm Glocks also have different finger groove spacing. There is quite a range, so it is likely that at least one or two models would fit your hand nicely.

Not only that, but each size (full, compact, subcompact) have a different geometry to the backstrap that affects the overall feel. I prefer the backstrap angle of G26>G19>G17. Others prefer the opposite.

Another alternative would be to buy a 2nd generation Glock that doesn't have finger grooves - they are plentiful, cheap, and easy to find.

And of course you could always manually take the grooves off.

But to answer your question in two words, "My hands." :D

Mine also fits the compact Glocks the best G19/23/32. The fullsize Glocks spread my fingers apart a little too much than what I prefer but it's still ok. The compact Glocks are spaced perfectly for my skinny fingers.

Thought I'd like the finger grooves and thumb rest on the third generation Glocks, but alas, I admit defeat. My G23's now for sale on this forum.

Have a second generation G19 that I love dearly and will never part with. The frame is so much better for my hands sans finger grooves. I'd classify my hands as medium with long fingers, and I just can't get the third generation frame to work for me.

Mine fit:) If you shift your grip so the gun lines up with your forearm, the grooves majicaly become larger. But thats for me:D

Well on the 19 I prefer no fingergrips

But I can live with them on the 17 and 26

I got the old style Type 2 with no fingergrips as shown by legion3. None of the ridges seem to line up with my mitts. ;)

Definitely prefer 2nd-gen non-fingergrooved Glocks. 3rd-gens just don't work for me for at all.

I'd love go get a G19 but the finger grooves just don't line up for me. They actually end up pushing my fingers off the bottom of the grip.

I wear extra large gloves and I have a generation 3 G22.....the grooves fit me just fine and are very comfortable.

I have tried the ones with groves and turned around and bought used, Mdl 21 without, because they just are not comfortable for me. I have read many posts where guys go to a lot of trouble to remove them.

;)

Is the webbing of your hand rested directly under the beavertail? Those that don't like the grip/finger grooves result from improper holding the frame.

I love the finger grooves and Glock frame. It's a firearm, it doesn't have to fit every need but do its job.

A couple of things here:
1. There are thousands of 2nd Gen guns out there without finger grooves that are in excellent to new condition.

2. ALL the finger grooves on ALL the Glocks of the std frame size are spaced the same. The model 25, 26, 27, 28, 32, 33, 34, 35, 39, 17, 22, 23, 19, 31, 38, 37, 19, 24 and any others that may have missed have the same spacing. They may feel different becasue of the length of the grip but they are identical.

Or, if you don't want to sacrifice the legendary Glock reliability but would like to have it fit your hand, you could have this done to it...

I have third generation G17, G17L and the G19. These fit my hand like the proverbial "glove".

I shoot with several other guys of varying size and stature ranging from 6' 4"/275# to 5'7"/155# that have third generation models (20, 21, 23, 27, 29, 30, 31, and 32) and shoot them with no complaints at all. I kinda figured they were a "one-size-fits-all" proposition since they all seem to like them quite a bit.

ETA: I have always strongly disliked the frequently encountered, Gawd-awful, (often) alcohol-inspired, amateurish "stippling" jobs that seem to leave the gun looking like it needs a 'shave'. But(!), I have got to say, Desertscout, that I really like the job that you have done on those guns, especially on the G21 in the bottom picture and the G22 in the middle photo! They look great, very professional!

If only that kind of work didn't violate the dang Glock warranty and I was a little less of a "chicken sh*t" about the getting past the 'psychic pain' of such an irreversible frame modification.....:uhoh:

BTW, did you 'relieve' the frame area just behind the trigger on that G21 to shorten/reduce the "reach" or is that grip tape?

Thank you, gunslinger and doug.
Yes, we did all those here and yes, the frame and trigger guard are relieved on the G21.

Desertscout,

Wow. That has to be the cleanest framework I've ever seen on a Glock. Very nice job, and the textures are very cool. You present nice work, sir.

To clarify, neither the Glock 17, Glock 19, nor the Glock 26 fit my hand. I really wish they'd go back to making them with no finger grooves. I'd rather buy new, and not have to pay to have the gun reshaped.
