...the small pistol primers? Every dadgum time I go to Sportsman's Warehouse, they are completely out! This last time, they were even out of all small pistol magnum primers, as well! Hey, leave me a few, even if just the little 100ct boxes.
I asked the management to increase thier order by 300%.

It's not just those pistol primers. SW here has been out of large rifle primers for some time. Cabelas had limited selection last time I was there. But I was in Houston earlier this week and was wishing I had driven down instead of flying. I went to Carter's Country there and they had shelves of primers. The powder selection was limited but they had a wide choice of primers. I don't know of a similar situation in the Dallas area though.

Heck last week I couldn't find any large rifle primers, except magnums, ohhhh they had tons of those.

Has anybody seen more then a sleeve (100 ct) or two of 209 shotgun primers, any brand/flavor ???

Just about all the primer manufacturers are running at full capacity (and falling behind) to satisfy their government contracts. With the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and especially all the training going on as units rotate in and out, the demand for primers and other ammo components is far exceeding supply. Thus, not much left for lower priority customers (us) and the prices are going way up on what there is. The only primers that seem to be in good supply are CCI, which may tell a tale of its own.

I dodged down there this morning. I called them at store opening,and made it there 30 minutes later, and they had 1, 1000ct box of CCI-500 left. MINE! That was with the shipment coming in yesterday.
I need to start hangin around with the fogeys at store opening, so I can grab the goodies hot off the truck, too!

I'm guilty too of hoarding up all the primers I could find. But I think that was ten or twelve years ago during the time when the last rumor was going around about not being able to buy primers anymore. But it would be wrong to blame me for Sportsman's Warehouse not being able to keep primers in stock - even though at 59 years old there's little doubt I have enough primers to last me the rest of my life, I bought them before Sportsman's Warehouse existed in this part of the country.

Primers may not be as plentiful as normal but it looks to me like Sportsman's Warehouse has more trouble keeping them in stock than anyone else. Poor inventory control.

Yes, the Gander Mtn by me had shelf after shelf of those and almost nothing else.

I stopped buying at Sportsman Warehouse in OKC because it is always on the next truck. Their reloading section looks like they are just now going into business. I started ordering mass from Midway, at least I know it will be to my house in two days.

My local shop has been out of them the last few times I've been there. Those and Unique. But an explaination lies in the fact that the last I time I went there, I saw more reloaders (or beginners) in the reloading room than I have in the previous twenty times I've been there combined. Ammo costs got everyone down, and with the anti's playing hardball, everyone's stocking up. When the Iraq situation is settled one way or another, maybe we can all look forward to surplus ammo and powder.

Went to Sportsman's Warehouse during lunch today...

No Winchester/CCI/Federal large or small pistol primers. No Winchester/CCI/Federal small rifle primers. No Winchester/CCI/Federal large rifle primers.

The only thing they seemed to have was Federal large magnum pistol, and Federal large magnum rifle. I guess I could buy a box of Fed large magnum pistol for my 44mag, but I have been using CCI or Winchester standard primers for so long, I don't want to re-work my loads.

I'm still okay... I have about 3-4K primers, but I would feel better if more were available.

if i where you i would just jump on midway and get them online. i know you have to pay like a $20 dangerous hazmat fee, but if you just place a big order the savings should cover it.

I stopped by the Sportsmans Warehouse the other day and found the same thing. The only primers they had were match and shotgun primers. Their bullet and powder selection was really poorly stocked as well.

The guy behind the counter said that everything is hard to get right now and to come back on friday when the truck comes in

I've got 323 Winchester Staynless Large Rifle Primers, #81/2-120 I'll send free to anyone who really needs rifle primers. These are at least 20 years old, maybe more.

If you're talking about the Gander Mountain in Charleston, I've noticed that as well. They have shelves full of shotgun primers and almost no pistol or rifle primers every time I've been there. I wasn't that impressed with their selection of reloading components in general.

Just last week I ordered a case ( 5 boxes of 1000) magtech primers from Midway, they showed up yesterday, 4/25/07. I also have 3000 Rainier 155 grain bullets on hand from Midway, along with 4 lbs of Unique. I have NO concerns for quite awhile, plenty of components for plenty of loadin'. I'm also sitting on 2000 peices of once fired 40 brass, ooooooraaaaaahhhhh.

So yes, I may be part of the problem, as I am "stockpiling".

There is a gun show coming up next weekend out here and guess what? I'm gonna buy another box of primers (1000) and 500 more bullets.

If you're ever in the Ripley area, Great Outdoors at Fairplain has a good selection of powder at reasonable prices. Their primer prices are good as well, but you have to catch them at the right time as they don't stock a mass quantity of primers if you are looking to buy in bulk. I was there a few weeks ago and bought 4K large pistol primers for $21/K. They will order for you if requested. Sorry to take the thread OT.

This evening I purchased 3,000 Winchester Small Pistol primers and 1,000 Federal Large Pistol primers. I was feeling pretty good to get them for under $20/K including tax. Then I drove to another store and bought three pounds of AA#7 and a pound of AA2230 for $16.25 each. (20%-OFF).

I don't think I'll see these prices locally again so I bought what I could.

I just wish I could get bullets in bulk for the prices I paid last year.

I was at an NDIA conference last week and one of the manufacturers for the government contract (ATK I think) said they produced ~1.5 BILLION rounds of small arms ammo for Uncle Sam in the past year.

I soon realized how buying 2 or 3 sleeves of 100 wasnt really gonna cut it..!
