Just took a look at the Sportsman's Warehouse website to see if anything new was showing in stock for primers at my local store and I noticed the prices (at least on the website) have jumped dramatically.

Federal small pistol magnum match that used to be $7.99/100 are now listed at $9.99/100.

Prices on other brands/varieties seem to follow suit.

My local has been on a 1 brick limit now for a few months so those prices translate out to full 1k even though the website always says "Limit 2 in store".

It's a shame they're following the higher cost of other big box stores like BP/Cabelas instead of holding the line to around $60/k on standard type primers and $80-90 for match.

It might be worth it now to actually check out that new Scheel's near me or even make a special trip up to Bruno's now that their pricing on primers is somewhat reasonable.

True. There have been options for a while though, just not as great as what Sportsman's has been giving. They were the one outlet that was being reasonable on current pricing relative to pre-Covid 19 pricing.

Bought a brick of magnum small pistol primers today at SW. The sign said $5.99/100 but they rang up $7.99 per 100. They said they would honor the price of $5.99 but said prices increased today online and they had not changed the prices in the store yet. That is quite a increase in price. Very little powder on the store shelves.

I swang through my local and sure enough, the new price listed online is what primers rang up as.

Fed SPMM were 9.99/100. I went ahead and picked them up while I was there because they didnt have any regular Fed LR and I had some rewards points to cover the tax.

Probably the last brick of match I'll buy for a while. I'll just have to make the 5kish I have last. I'm only going to use them for silhouette match loads so shouldn't be too hard.

It is a bummer though.

Woah! They caved (but thankfully not by much)

On Nov 5th I bought 900 Fiocchi small pistol primers (900 was their limit). Price was $8.99 for a sleeve of 150 primers. I thought that was a pretty good deal, 900 primers for $53.94.

Today (Nov 8th) their website shows $10.99 instead of $8.99. The same 900 would now cost $65.94. Still a decent price compared to nearly everyone else.

do you guys know if it’s just CCi & Federal?

did they increase Feocchi too?

I get the frustration, but if they did "hold the line", they would just be out of stock all the time and we would be complaining still.
Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. At the end of the day, SW is a business that exists to make their owners money. So they price things at what the market will bear.

I was mad at first when prices went up. I think I even posted here on THR something to the effect of "I'll use my press as a boat anchor before I pay that much for primers". But with factory ammo what it is, this is the new norm. It may go down a little, but the days of $50/1k primers are over.

Shares of Sportsman’s Warehouse stock have tanked this year by nearly 50%, so the increase in prices is not unexpected. Wouldn’t be surprised if they were bought-out by Bass Pro.

Thing is though, the stock that they've been getting regularly is always there even with people buying it.

There hasn't been a time I can think in the last 8 months that they didn't have Fiocchi SPP on the shelf behind the gun counter. Even after they went to 1 brick limit.

I get they need to make a profit but they kept to that pricing for so long I have to think that they were turning a profit on primers, and primers have to be a pretty small blip on the revenue. Their powder pricing hasn't been great this last year when they have it so maybe they're just bringing primers in line with that.

Maybe it's a sign that their replacement cost has gone up or maybe they just decided to "match" the rest of the market (although they're a bit higher than others on some varieties now). If the replacement cost has gone up and that's the reason for the price hike it could be a sign that it may occur at other retailers. I don't say that lightly because I despise being a "they sky is falling, increases are coming!" guy.

Dude - GO TO SCHEELS! Caveat - this photo was from the week after they opened. It's a VERY nice store. And to heck with Bruno's - they gouged like crazy during the Plandemic.

I can't help thinking that demand for components has exploded as more and more spray and pray users burn up ammo by the thousand in their ARs and similar guns. 30 years ago, (and before) target shooters were the biggest reloaders and they shot bolt guns, revolvers or single shots. High demand always equals high prices. As long as large magazines are feeding semi-autos, the demand will be huge--until Bill Gates and company have chips implanted to regulate what you buy.

I couldn’t agree more, as long as people will pay twice the price for the same thing, you would be a fool to not sell it to them at twice the price.

Not really a free market though, so things are not exactly self leveling…

I don't think the guys I see blasting AR ammo at the range and in the desert are reloading. Judging by the number of empties they leave laying around.
