A little bit of background - Marvel Comics' big storyline at the moment is "Civil War." One group of superheroes, led by Iron Man, is enforcing a government mandate that ALL costumed heroes register their real names with the Gov. Another group, led by Captain America, is actively fighting this.

(fans that are actually FOLLOWING the story could probably paint a better picture. In fact, there may be a parallel to gun owners since I think some kind of "tragedy" involving ONE "super" is causing ALL of them to be punished....!)

The official Ad campaign had the Civil War logo, pictures of assorted heroes, and the phrase "I'm With *insert character here*."

It didn't take too long for some creative geeks to get the idea of customizing this idea, with all sorts of "I'm With..." banners popping up in honor of all sorts of characters from all sorts of media.

With that in mind, and the idea of how relying on others (even The Phantom, or Duke Nukem, among some of my customs! :D) is a BAD idea...I present who I'd REALLY be better off with! ;)

(I wanted to do one with a "no-UN" logo that says "I'm NOT with the United Nations, but the one I had looked lousy! :p)

LOL I like that. When I read the line "I'm with *person*", my first thought was Mr Smith and Mr Wesson too :D

Someone should do one that says "I'm with Prophet JMB" :neener:

Finally, a topic that speak to my expertise. I agree with Capt. America's side. I find the whole thing stinks of facism.

I like how the Thing took a stand and refused to break the law but would not support it either so he is moving to France.

Not sure about the whole sides thing.

The comic idea reminds me of some quote I heard somewhere: whenever a crime is committed, they punish everyone who didn't do it

Quick and dirty maybe, but I like it a lot. Would you mind if I made that into a sticker? Just for myself, not for profit. I think it'd be great to put on my binder, or backpack.

Sure, do whatever you want with it. I would advise getting the larger version from flickr (hopefully that link is correct) so you can get a better print out.

No, Spiderman is on Iron Man's side but he is becoming very disillusioned after his trip to the holding facility in the negative zone. He even went public with his identity at Stark's request.

Well, to play devil's advocate; look at what trolls do with internet anonymity...imagine if "gunkid" had superpowers!:what:
:D ;)

Heh, had to have a little bump to show of my newest custom with one of my favorite scenes in "Astonishing X-Men" EVER!

(If you follow the series and haven't read #17 yet, beware of spoilers!)

Scott Summers, aka Cyclops may not have use of his trademark eye-beams anymore. But he's still able to put on some body armor and pick up a semiauto and go take out the garbage!!!

-even when, like in this scene, the garbage is his SMOKING HOT lover, the White Queen. But her act of betrayal to the team will probably cost the entire human and mutant races their lives! :what:

*************************************************

To jack my own thread a bit, I was reading random THR stuff and came across how one members most annoying gun myth was that guns kill people.

The "Frank Miller" Daredevil comics are excellent work, especially the Elektra saga....but that gun lie was mentioned in one very dark arc where Daredevil plays Russian Roulette with a hospitalized archenemy. I can't quote it verbatum, but the inner thoughts in DD's head are that the .38 S&W he has "is only bought and sold for one purpose - to kill people."

Oooo...Batman!

Batman has a deep-seeded hatred for guns stemming from his parents' murder. In a "fairly" recent storyline, he even yelled at his (well, Bruce Wayne's) bodyguard for carrying one. The bodyguard KNEW he was Batman and she was just there "for show," but she pointed out it would look darned odd for a billionare's bodyguard to be unarmed. :neener: IIRC, in the end Bruce relented and even agreed that guns are just tools, it's the person USING it that makes the difference between using them for good or bad!

And Bruce even lets faithful butler Alfred use long guns for home-defense. Didn't do much good against Bane tho...! :what: :what: :what:

Ah, 2 other things from X-Men. The same storyarc showed Professor X carrying and later using a gun. His main purpose was to use it to commit suicide in the event a bad guy managed to take over his brain (a lethal weapon in it's own right). He later used it to shoot someone with just that intent...

Has Hell Boy chosen a side???: I sure do like that big ol' revolver he's got..confused:

Ahh... I've been reading this comic. I'm just glad Spider-Man has finally come to his senses and went to the non-registration side. I think everyone who reads the comic saw this coming from day one.
The Punisher is the one most people here will relate to the most:D Seeing as he relies mostly on firepower to fight his battles. He is obviously on the non-registration side.

Oh how I envy Frank Castle

The Batman thing is interesting, because if you go back and check the original Batman comics in the 30's, he carried a 1911.

But, doesn't the world already know now who Spiderman is though, since he took off his mask?

imagine if "gunkid" had superpowers!

Faster than a supressed .22 and more powerful than a tactical wheel barrow. Look, up in the sky, its a dropping balloon... NO.. It's...(dunh..dunh..duuhh) GUN..KID!! :D

* as a side note. We do still have Mall Ninja. I am pretty sure he has superpowers, just ask him.

Comic Book Heroes

Is there a hero named Gun Knut? Maybe Ammo Man? How about Sniper or Kp'nBearArmz? If so, I'll start reading.

Interesting about Castle...after all, his I.D. has long been public knowledge. Guess he still wants to "punish" the registration people for going after the good guys...!

AH....the old Archie Comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was FILLED with anti-gun propoganda, mostly from Leonardo (the team leader). "Guns are not honorable!"

From a Samurai's point of view, guns aren't honorable. It's all about Bushido.
