I wonder how many spare mags he's gonna carry...

He will be given a 1911 that is specially enhanced by Hollywood Engineering, which means infinite ammo, no jams, and a cool ricochet sound even when shooting monsters made of slime, in a duvet factory.

If they turn Frank Castle into a colorful tights wearing sissy I will throw chairs...

I hope he's packing a 1911 - cuz that's what Captain Freaking America should be packing. I can think of no other auto that embodies America more than the 1911.
Looks like a 1911 to me. And the knife on his belt looks a lot like a classic Ka-Bar.

If they stay with that, I could possibly even like the new Captain America.

I might be wrong, but it seems to me when I was a kid, way back in the dark ages, that Cap carried a pair of 1911's (45 automatics we called 'em back then) in standard full flap GI holsters.

It was a long time ago though.

Your not wrong, marvel took them away from him when the gubment, and "its for the safety of the children" groups tried to have comic books banned back in the day, now he's got at least one back. /thumbs up

About ten years ago Marvel did a "What If" comic book which actually went through a scenario where the Punisher takes over as Captain America.

The premise was that Steve Rogers is out of action and since the original Super Soldier serum was lost a man with already hightened warrior skills would be needed in order to bring him up to spec with the weaker Super Soldier serum developed afterwards.

It actually starts really nasty with "Captain America" stopping a robbery then killing both robbers while repeatedly chopping down on them with his shield and screaming, "You must be punished!" over and over again.

Very un-Captain America-like but I was a Marine at the time and, lets face it, Marines tend to find killing funny.

Will he be imprisoned if anybody he shoots is an illegal alien, regardless of the number or severity of the laws broken (starting with entering illegally)?

Only if he shoots them in the back and then tries to cover it up.

The Punisher already picked up the Capt America guise (sorta) in the the pages of Punisher War Journal the last few months. I didn't complete the whole storyline...but he put on a Capt America outfit to kill a white supremacist who dementedly believed himself the heir of Steve Rogers, the WWII Cap. Pun called BS and fighting ensues.

I do not think the new Cap is Frank Castle. Punisher respects greatly Capt America, the man, and all he stood for. He doesn't feel himself worthy of being the man himself.

THe gun, even if a 1911, is wrong for Cap.

Objectively, it will also draw the scorn of antigunners and the mainstream. Think about it.

Even myself, a bigger RKBA guy than a comicbook nerd--I have major issues of Captain AMerica needing a gun(even if he ISN't product a US WWII supersoldier program). He's CPT America. He can kick ass without one.

My opinion, my favorite version of Cap is the Ultimates one. He does often pick up a gun. He's a soldier. But the gun isn't a part of his uniform. And he's just as deadly without it.

THis will not go well for marvel. This will go down like the elctricty blue/red superman that came about after HE died.. remember that? It sucked.

LOL

DRZinn,

That was funny.

Oh and you guys jabbering about the 1911 issue with capacity: They do make hi-cap 1911's. While they are technically not a 1911, the only difference is the ability to hold more rounds and the size of the frame in respect to the handgrip.

I know Para-Ordanance still makes them, but I have a Springfield hi-cap that I bought in 2004ish.

I'm assuming you guys are going to be sticklers for detail though. Eh?

I just remembered that Batman used to carry a gun, but that was retconned out of continuity. Batman doesn't kill the bad guys, so batarangs became his long-ranged weapons.

And Iron Man would kick the Master Chief's butt, even though he is an alcoholic fascist now.

There's only one other gun that fits for the Captain, the Colt Army Special .32-20.
BTW, if they give him a Desert Eagle, I'm gonna puke.

Master Chief could kick the Captain's butt, and he uses a gun. Use every advantage you can get, I say.

All things being equal. No, I don't think he could/ I love Halo...but the Master CHief ain't even American...

Again, though, you are supposing the Cap never uses guns. Not true. Especially not the Ultimates version of Steve Rogers. He often uses guns. He's a soldier. (as I've noted above) It's just not a part of his uniform. He can kick ass without one...but he will use it if it offers him an advantage. Against a rampaging Hulk? It's easier to drop a BRadley on him...which he did. Against Giant Man? easier to drop part of a building on him. WHich he did. Against a middle east poser "Colonel" thats a product of the same supersoldier modifications? Easier to impale him on his own lightsaber. WHich he did. Guns he'll use on silly henchmen. Take the Master CHief. Cap prolly wouldnt use a gun...MC has those recharging shields after all. Cap would prolly use his shield to take the MC's silly little head off.

Marvel has lots of heroes that use guns; off the top of my head, Deadpool, The Punisher, and those ridiculous things on Liefeld-era Cable's back are supposed to be guns too, so this isn't exactly a radical step for them.

All second-rate and lame. Yes, even the Punisher. And yes, both have sometimes great books, but are you honestly comparing them to Capt America? Yes, I realize capt america more often than not is in some terrible books...but we're talking american cultural icons here. Put a comic book in a gift basket to an alien race and will you really throw in Deadpool #26 over Cpt America's origin story?

This reeks of marvel trying to be "edgy" and "hip." It comes off as lame. Mark my words...this will go down just like the "revived" Superman after his "Death." Remember the electric blue and electric red dual lightning guys? Lame. Remember the "edgy" and "hip" loony tunes: the "Loonatics" with a cyberpunk bugs (he carried laser guns, i think). Lame.

I am NOT an expert on Captain America, but I do remember that as long as 50 years ago The Phantom always carried two 1911s in flap holsters, and he still does. He did in the movie, too.

You sure you're not confusing Captain America with the ghost who walks?

I don't think I'd put a comic book in a gift basket to an alien race. But even if I did, it'd probably be Sin City.

His shield? Seriously? I mean, MC's re-entered the atmosphere before, been blown up, been lasered, squashed, crushed, you name it. And you think that a razor shield would kill him? That's almost as silly as that picture showing Gordon Freeman taking MC's head off with a crowbar.
And Iron Man would kick the Master Chief's butt, even though he is an alcoholic fascist now.
I'm not totally aware of all Iron Man's abilities, but how?
All things being equal. No, I don't think he could/ I love Halo...but the Master CHief ain't even American...
How is he not American? He was designed by Bungie, an American company, he's part of the UNSC Marines, which trace their lineage directly to the US Marine Corps, and he's a product of rampant capitalism. What's not American?

You have mentioned all things that are products of the suit...not the man. Cpt America has jumped out of planes and never uses chutes (or fancy energy shields and 25th century suits). Fall off a cliff in Halo...and MC dies. Reentry? Either 1) convenience of narrative flow or 2)the suit, the suit, the suit! Throw Cpt America in a Mjolnir MK VI. Or heck, we actually haven't seen MC do reentry without an ODST droppod onscreen in any of the games! He fell from a covenant ship onto IN AMber Clad in H2. We found him in a jungle in H3. We assume he fell from orbit...he could have fallen from much, ,much lower. Either way, we KNOW he dies if he falls down certain cliffs.

MC being American is all conjecture on your part. He was born off world. He's not even in the UNSC Marines...he's in the UNSC NAVY. And lineage is one thing...but CPT STeve Rogers is a commissioned officer in the US ARMY. The UNSC is a UNITED NATIONS military. I love Halo3, but at the end of the day you're playing a blue helmeted SAILOR. Cpt America fought Nazis fer crying out loud. Are you honestly tellng me that MC is "more AMerican" than Captain America? Seriously?

And his shield ain't razor. It's physics. It's a "simple" adamantium shield. If a brute can punch MC to death.... If a needler can kill MC... If MC can only engage targets out to 300 m or so with his "sniper rifle"...

Have I nerded out your screens?
