Why Are New Guns Ugly?

PRETTY ARTISTIC
Fastcast, I don't see anything especially "artistic" about that pistol except the billboard on the slide and frame....
Way too much text on that pistol.

BTW, it deserves a better holster than that one.

I agree and it's a shame they put all that lawyer crap on the slide.:fire: The frame is mostly Beretta proof marks and such. Either way it puts that Glock dropping to shame. :p

Heh, I like that little universal holster. I can carry all kinds of different ways and it fits at least 4 other pistols. :)

Why are new guns ugly? Well part of the reason is that abomination called the accessory rail. Rails can be useful and some guys couldn't care less if their gun is ugly, for them functionality trumps aesthetics. Me, I won't buy a handgun with a rail.

ugliest? my hi point, or any other hi point, function ? every time I pull the trigger, it goes bang. (unless I need to reload it) Or a bad round. But hey, the cheap ugly plastic thingy is fun to shoot and fairly accurate for the $$.

I am 51 years old and now I think theres lots of beautiful woman around. I base this on learning to appreciate beauty not only in form but in personality. As far as firearms are concerned it form and function. There is the beauty of design, the machining, finishing, coatings used, the reliability, durability. Yes some maybe not so attractive but they work well. Glocks are not ugly to me I like them but I also I find beauty veiwing a collection of flintlock rifles with their maple wood stocks. A row of Mauser rifles in a gun shop makes me stop and look. Over a hundred years ago when technology took a big turn in firearms I am sure persons suffered in anguish looking at a Merwin Hubert or a Smith model 1. Maybe the Winchester 1887 shotguns turned the stomach of double gun owners. Who knows?

Why do some people insist that 1911's are big hunks of metal that are heavy to carry? It's only a couple of pounds. Lose some fat and replace it with a 1911 if you can't handle the weight.

How about this! I once had this girlfriend who at one time was an engineering student and worked for Union Carbide. She watched me dissasseble the bolt from a Mexican Mauser Model 24 Cavalry carbine and as she watched the ease in which it came apart and then studied the pieces and asked how old it was she remarked" This is ingenious and so beautiful". She eventually took a "Becoming an outdoorswoman" course and took up shooting. Should have married her. Good personality too and hot. Im stupid.

Arrrrrrrrg.......Sometimes we miss the boat! :banghead:

Cheers.....

form over function-

function over form? and then again - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Most new looking guns sure are ugly if you ask me.
Ruger Chargers are pretty sleek.
nothing wrong with an old makarov style
i'm sticking with Hotchkiss Guns ..

To me, this is also elegant.

Yeah but the commies ripped off the Colt 1903 Pocket-Hammerless fot the Tokarev's styling.

Now that's "elegant" and original! ;)

I suspect it will be a lot like cars. Once the new guns get in, the real beauties will be in peoples' safes. I'm just not sure I'll ever be ready for this:

It shoots like a dream, and it weights less than any comparable pistol in the pricerange.
Mine's been on me for a while now.

I was led to believe that JMB designed the gun, and the American's didnt want it. Is this true? I know that I love mine. I have a Norinco version chambered in 9mm and it is my favorite gun.

No, the Tok was designed by Fedor Tokarev to replace the aging Nagant revolvers the Red army was using, and while he was obviously heavily influenced by JMB's designs there was no official recognition of JMB's influence.

They're good guns I have two Poles and had a Norinco T-54 and I agree they are really nice shooters, but other than the removable hammer assembly they're a total rip-off of JMB's ideas.

The Soviets weren't constrained by patent laws in the West and basically ripped off JMB and other western inventors for a lot of their firearm's designs.

Beauty is a gun that goes bang when I need it. To me, a firearm is not a fashion accessory. It is a tool... a tool that rarely gets to show itself off in public places. My priorities are reliability, durability, performance and comfort... good looks are a ways down the list. I guess that's why I am a fan of companies like Glock and Kel Tec.

Having said that, there is a soft place in my heart for a pretty gun with classic looks. However, that gun is rarely in my pocket/holster when I need it.

Yea, but why settle for ugly, when there's pistols that offer all that and aesthetics?
